hi,
im new to this forum but already it has been a great help to me, i am also new to the whole tropical fish get up (but my bf's family have a tank which ive got tips from) i was wondering where i could purchase the ph/amonia testing kits as i typed them into ebay but no results!! also what other things do i need for my tank? (it has been set up now for 2 weeks and we have 14 fish in which seems nicely full not too full) hope you can help me with this info because ive quickly found out that pet shops are all too eager to sell you the whole fish product range at highest prices!

Hi. I'm new to the forum too, but hopefully I can help. I have had good luck with buying testing supplies at Petco. If you buy them online, they are usually listed on sale vs. going to the actual shop. Hope this helps.

I have a blog article called "Everyone needs a decent Master Test Kit" with research and links to online sources and pricing. http://goldlenny.blogspot.com/2007/03/ever...r-test-kit.html You need more than just pH and ammonia. The API Master Test Kit should come with ammonia, nitrite, pH (low and high), KH and GH on their new mode. The old model had nitrate but not KH and GH. The newer model is better. You can buy a separate nitrate kit. The last time I checked, there were several online sources and PetsMart that had the API master test kit for around $15.00 - $17.00. The Nitrate kit is another $6.00 to $7.00.

I use http://www.PetsMart.com to check their online prices and print out the things I am interested in. Then I go to the local store which is only a block from my home. They will match their online prices. Petco doesn't do it... at least not the one in my area.

I also use http://www.BigAlsOnline.com and http://www.MarineDepot.com but only when I will be placing bigger orders so the shipping costs are either free or reduced. PetsMart will also give free shipping but if I need something fast, I can at least get the single item right away and only have to pay the sales tax. Most online sites do not even charge sales tax unless they are located in the State where you are ordering.
