Info on Spiny Eels

do you no what prices are for these, only my lfs no i realy want one and
i don't want to get ripped of, ;) obviously prices vary but could do with a rough idea :)

Not too sure but should be much cheaper than Fire Eels. If you trust lfs then they shouldn't rip you off. If you use them a lot they will not want to upset a good customer. :)

thanks gibbo, i have 2 lfs here, but don't use this one very often, his prices are way higher than the 1 i use, also his fish are'nt always kept very well
thats why i just wanted rough idea about prices, :)

ooooo yes yes yes i've got one i've got one, oops sorry was a tad bit excited then  i got my tyre track eel today he's absolutly georgeous,
he's around seven inches long, i  him, :D he settled right in , he did'nt even hide he's been active all day, oh already had 1 incedent,
a while ago 1 of my ipf broke, so i put in one of the old sponge filters and never got round to replacing it, any way its the L shaped one with a tube running down in 3 pieces to the sponge and the top part is curved over,
i saw him noseing round it, then he got in the curve and wriggled down it,
i was all of a panic, i pulled the whole thing out had to take the tubing to pieces part by part untill i reached him, then gently shook him out back into the tank, no worse for his ordeal, so for now i cut a piece of nylon stocking and witha rubber band put it over the end of the open tube,
he keeps going to the top of the tank looking for escape routes, i've sealed all the holes around the wires pipes ext, but i'm thinking of getting a piece of glass made to fit the top of the tank under the hood instead of the perspex one, he's a realy active fellow :D i was pleased with the price he cost £6.99 ahhhh and worth every penny :D

Excellent, they are gr8 fish! There is always something going on with them and their curiosity knows no bounds.... If poss lower water level slightly, I have mine 2.5" below top, this seems to deter escape attempts a little. Good luck slt and keep us updated.

Btw, whats its name? :D

  been that busy watching it not thought of one yet, :)
mmmm now he deserves a real good name ? any ideas gibbo, :D

they have peacock eels i think they are at my lfs for £4.99 not come across these before :D

great news slt about ur eels¬! :D :D

thanks cryosi, he's realy cool hey can you think of a good name for him / her :D

well i'm going to have to get a piece of pipe fore him, he's hell bent on getting into the filter tube,  he's been poking it all afternoon with
his long snout, :D he's realy comical to watch , he he don't think he nows that eels are suposed to be shy and hide away lol  he's been realy active since i got him, oooo i  him, :D

gibbo i'm a bit worried as i have'nt seen him eating yet, he's active in the day, the wierd thing is he seems to be looking for food then when i put it in he dashes of under the bogwood, i've put in prawns frozen blood worm tubiflex and other frozen foods, is it because he's not settled in yet ??
i've even put in food right in front of him but he just swims away, ;)

Try small earthworms, he's probably a wild caught fish and because he will eventually get to be one of the larger Eels, being a Tire Track, he will most likely respond to the wriggling and movement. Keep your eye on the worms to make sure they don't bury themselves and pollute the tank. He may still be settling in as you say. My guys don't seem to eat all that much, just a bit here and there. He may be trying stuff at lights out, if he looks OK and is on the lookout for food then that is a good thing, if he was sulking in a corner then I'd worry.
