but i took the 2 black and grey striped ones and i think they are both males,they pick on each other alot but they dont actually fight,looks more like playing to me

Just make sure you don't introduce a female in the future.

Yeah, ive got 3 convicts, a breeding pair of pink female and black male, and a lone black female, in another tank. These fish were great at first, lived in my community tank, (the female black still does) with no probs, and imo are quite peaceful fish, but that all changed when the two paired up. Not really aggressive, but took over half of my 4ft tank. Even my 3 sevs were scared off. These are great fish to watch breed, some of the best parents ive seen, mine still look after there fry after 4 months, but its near impossible to get rid of the fry, so, if any one wants a pair of convicts lol, let me know. Im dismantling their tank. The yellow one i have seen in the tank pics is identical to one i have, but am having trouble identifying. I got it off a cousin of mine who was seling up, but it is extremely peaceful and timid. It shares a 30" tank with a violet goby, 3 tiger barbs, a tiny sucking loach and an unusual firemouth.

ya everyone is saying that the yellow one should be calm and what not but when i was watching him over at the guy house he was even picking on the huge oscar ,ive got enough problems already fish agressive five ,for now though im just thinking i will nurse them back to health then bring em down to the aquarium superstore(i love that place!!!)and hope they get a good home

If you have eggs, then 1 is definately a female and the rest of the tank is in BIG trouble! (That is if you have them with any other fish.)
Its when cons breed that their extremely aggressive tendacies come out as they will defend their fry to the death.

its just them and a pleco but i think hell be ok and they are really guarding they havent moved from their eggs.i knew something was going on they pushed one of the decorations right over to lay eggs underneath it and moved all the gravel too

The pleco might try to eat the eggs, but he should be ok. It sure didn't take them long! Thats what I've heard about them, they breed like rabbits and are wonderful parents. I haven't had anything breed to date but I try not to let that happen!
I look forward to hearing how this goes!

With a pleco tho, all bets are off. The cons protect heir eggs very well but maybe not catfish. The cons aren't as good protecting the eggs at night and that happens to be when the pleco comes alive. I wouldn't be worried about other fish getting to the eggs but nightfeeders I would watch out for.

I think it should be fine because they made like a cave kinda and they are both in front of it,i can hardly even get a look
