Info On Black Ghost Knife Fish Pls :)

Thanks everyone for the info :D
I have a turkey baster I was using for something aquarium related that I can't remember now lol. I was thinking maybe using that to feed a BGK but wasn't sure how well it would work :)
I guess we'll just have to try out different ways and stick with whichever is best for us :)

lovely fish and get one if you can

even though they are predators I think if they are fed o they are less likely to eat other fish in your tank unlike my Clown Knife , bichir etc

they are also quite shy in my experience

I read somewhere they can live to 25, how true I don;t know but as they are slow growers and have a large potential suprise it wouldn't surprise me

That would be so great if they lived that long :D
We went and took a look at some tanks today, and my DH has his heart set on this 125gal setup we saw. We want to look around a little bit more (it is a ton of money afterall) just to be sure.... then we'd have to special order the tank since the one they have has some kind of overflow thing in it and we don't want that.
So hopefully in a week or so, we'll have a nice big tank getting setup for our eventual BGK and whatever else we get :)

I'm sure a 125 setup will be fine for your bgk, thats double my size tank atm. My BGK is also very shy and stays in his log most of the day. I'm sure he comes out at night as he rotates between his fake log and a large stump which is Mopani wood. Mine is definatly on the shy side and does not come out alot in the day. They definatly like to hide so make sure you get rocks, logs etc for him/her to hide in.
Also make sure your tank is fully cycled ( Fishless Cycle is best ) as I am not sure how well a BGK will do in a fish in cycle.

Oh don't worry, I was a newbie before w/ cycling, but not anymore! I'll never let my impatients get the better of me like it did when we first started this hobby.
I plan on doing a fishless cycle but speeding it up a bit with some mature media from one of our other tanks (which reminds me I still need to add the extra media to one of the filters). :good:

Yay! One step closer to getting a BGK! We got our tank today!
Went to the Petsmart across town to see what they had. They had 2 150gallons... they were these big cube ones, very nice looking.
1 120gallon long and 1 125gallon long.... we got the 125 :)

So excited to start getting stuff for it and finally getting fish! Probably won't be for at least 2 more weeks depending on how quickly the mature stuff speeds up the cycling process.

The little BGKs at the petstore were just so cute and small!

Anyone know of behavior about there knife fish swimming upside down with there mouth touching top of the water and swimming really fast back and fourth?

Thanks,
Alex
