IN a few weeks I think that will be fixed...It's not actually planted symmetrically, the ludwiga repens is very very short, I could only save about 4 inches of the stem tops. Most of the background has short little plantings that will pop up in a few weeks.

I also have a tiger lotus bulb, I had to strip all of the leaves from it after the bleach dip. Hopefully it will start shooting up leaves. That should hopefully become a focal point.

I have a feeling at that point I will plant something in the space between, just to bridge the gap. It should still feel "convex", but be full in the back.

I appreciate the critique! :) It keeps me thinking and learning.

Well, If those things don't work, and it still seems too symmetrical, I will keep that in mind actually. I went and stared at the tank for a minute.

It IS symmetrical. Sword. here...sword...there. Well. I will let it fill in and adjust. No messing with plants that were just bleached.

Notice my first self assured answer. Then notice my next post were I break down into a spaz attack. High strung...

looking good - fish TB..bleach..sounds scary to me!!

Well done with the look of the tank, it looks great, and to give of my opinion, I like the gap in the centre, it draws the eye to the back of the tank and gives a sense of depth to it that would be lost if you filled it (or are my varifocals messing me about again??)

So glad you didn't give up as you have a definite talent with your plantscaping, love your use of colour contrast in there, and will follow with interest!

 Thanks. I see what you mean about the middle. I certainly intended for there to be a good depth.

Maybe the problem is the open space isn't off center enough, which certainly would make it look symmetrical. Once the plants fill out, I will do some playing around.

I really love the comments. My brain is whirling today. Especially as I still have a full 75g and a 10g to tear down and sterilize. {took 3 days for the 46g}

Don't get hung up on what i said, it's all personal preference. There are some good article done on the matter.

this covers mainly Iwagumi style

http://www.thegreenmachineonline.com/articles/tips-techniques/iwagumi-aquascapes-introduction

LLJ also did a great article on the basics of aquascaping, she covers the golden ratio.

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/328059-basics-in-aquascaping/

and i think you hit the nail on the head with your comment regarding the pathway being not being offset. If that was offset to a third of the way across the tank you'd be on a definite winner. I guarantee that. :good:

Hi
nice to see you restarting, not sure i would have
as a suggestion , feel free to ignore

move this rock placement & crypt from left to right.Gives a bit more of a focal point on the right, and a diagonal path from front left to back right ???

Looks very good :hyper:

did you bleach the plants?

if not they run the risk of adding the tb into this setup too

Oh no, I really appreciate any ideas and/or critiques. It help me think in a way, I otherwise wouldn't have, and I learn more. I am just a little high strung, and it takes my poor brain a minute to calm down and focus on an idea. I have already read lljdma06's article as well as some others. I bookmarked the Iwagumi guide for later today. Thanks :good:

In true twitchy style, I used my daily water change as an excuse to move some things. I think I have now softened the shape, and given a place to focus. I am starting to think that the tiger lotus may not be needed. I guess we'll see.

I actually removed one of the rocks. What I would give for some of those awesome rocks you all seem to find in the UK. I do like your suggestion it would have fixed some of the focal issue. I will keep that in mind. I am going to keep at it until it's really wonderful...then hopefully stop for at least a week to enjoy it   I'll post some pics later.

Thanks :)

Bleached!! Everything. Buckets, nets, plant scissors, glass scraper, filter, heater....you get the idea. Oh, I bleached the sand. Nice PITA to rinse...worse then the first clean.

Thanks everyone for the help and support. I'm so motivated!!!

After all the hassle that tank look:
GREAT
If this is your tank in a bad moment i can't imagine how good it must have looked before.
I was reading about fish TB today on a fish health book.and it actually mentions that it manifests ob humans trought cuts or rashes. And i swear my first thought was i need to start being more carefull. A now all that hassle you had, jeez Fish TB really is a pain.

Haha. Yup nothing like a good 'ole tank bleaching in the hot Texas sun! My back has the sunburn to show for it. It wasn't so bad, considering I am a neat freak and probably would have been cleaning something anyway.

Fish TB is nasty, but it is supposed to be really rare. I will be more careful where I buy fish, but I bet I won't come across it again. *knocking on wood*

I have to say, I'm really enjoying just sitting back and reading. So happy to see the comeback! ;)

Ok, I played a little earlier. I added some crypts.

This was more of a test with the crypts. There needed to be a focal point to take the pressure off of the center. It doesn't have to be permanent. I don't mind trial and error, it's a chance to learn what works and what doesn't.

Learning = Cool. Cloudy water = You can't even see the spraybar.
