howdy fellas, I had got a pair of common/indian mynahs. and now I want to know some things about them here is a list of what I want to know:
(1)-Is it okay to keep common mynahs indoors?
(2)-What should I feed them to make them healthy besides thier pellets?
(3)-How to tell the male from female?
(4)-How smart are they?

I know what you guys are thinking.......you guys are asking yourselfs why didn't I do some research on them before buying?RIGHT? well I was on my way to the petstore to get some dust powder for my 2yrs old chinchilla, but I had heard the mynahs calls so I rushed toward them and found over 20 common mynahs in one cage..... so I couldn't resist them so I buyed two, hehehe (Mynahs are my favourite birds after parrots)..

1..If kept indoors surround three sides of their enclosure ..you'll soon see why as food passes through their system,lol...also spray twice daily with tepid water for their plumage

2..Like all large soft bills add fruit and occasionally small pieces of meat..mine loved dog food and dried dog food soaked until soft

3..The yellow wattle of the males is slightly brighter and larger

4..VERY !!!!!!!!

Don't try to bring out and handle at start like a parrot species..these are wild birds i'd guess and if not wing clipped..which i'm personally against, they WILL fly off..also their beaks are nasty and will draw blood easily

WATTLE?! no, no I think you are mistaking my common mynahs for Greater hill mynah or Southern hill mynah........ I don't think that they are adults. They are still young. AND THEY GET FRIGHTENED QUIT EASILY.... how can I over come thier fear and make them not scared of me?...........I've been having them for about 3-4 days now?

Wattle?! what wattle? I think that you are confusing my common mynah for a greater hill mynah or southern hill mynah........ mine are small, shy, easily frightened and allways hungry!!

In my experience they don't tame as easily if you keep them in pairs. And they also won't "bond" quite as easily with you.
As for the rest, they're incredibly intelligent and curious birds. Give them LOTS of attention and mental stimulation and toys to play with.
Make sure you have a very large enclosure - please, not normal little bird cage.

no, no they are not in Small bird cage you can say that it is medium sized!! I can transffer them into my brothers avairy..... but the aviary is a community one it contains Doves, lovebird and budgies, will the COMMON Mynah fit with them? and what toys I can give them to play with.... and how long will take for one to bond with me?

If they're really young birds and kept singly, then they'll bond with you in a matter of days. Mine followed me around like a dog.
I would say that you should do your own research on the internet on mynah's in general - even though they're "common", pretty much the same would apply.

I think that the mynah is not a FULLY adult yet, one had died now.... coz two of them started to fight. can I feed them some insects from the pet store like (crickets, mealworms..etc)?

just wanted to say your really lucky those lovebirds in the aviary havnt killed the budgies
scot

just dont give the lovebirds branches to chew or give them nest boxes and encourage them to breed or you may well run in to problems even if they are both female
regards scot :)

Thanks scot!! the lovebirds had killed two budgies so far  OOOH one more hing about common Mynahs......is it okay for common mynahs to live alonside with finches?

if the lovebirds are aggresive do not give them twigs or branches or even nest boxes this will help to keep them as settled as possible mate dont know about keeping mynahs with finches though they might be a bit jumpy
scot :)
