I have been to every pet and fish store I can think of around me. I foound the "Flourish" but cannot find the Potassium Nitrate or Potassium Phosphate ANYWHERE. Does anybody know if I were to find these chemicals in a nursery or plant store if they would be useable in home aquaria? I hate to order them online and have to pay as much in shipping as the product costs but I may have to.

Thanks

Depending on your age, and if you're still at school, you could get friendly with your local Chemistry Technician ;)

Potassium Nitrate (KNO3) is commonly known as SALTPETRE in the gardening trade. You might have to look at larger retailers to find it. or even a local butcher as it is used in meat curing apparently.

Not really sure about Potassium Sulphate :( I bit the bullet and bought them online along with some other items so the postage wasn't so bad. Maybe worth considering that?

you can get your ferts from rexxgrigg if your stateside cheap and the shipping cant be much
hope that helps

...or you can dry dose it using a set of baking spoons, its a matter of taste.

I get some water into a pot with a screw cap and fill it half full with tank water, then measure out my dry powders and put them into it. Then its just a case of screwing the lid on and giving it a good shake before tipping it into the tank gradually.
