 I'm the worst fishkeep in thr forums! Every month I lose fish! My 29 gallon tank went through some unsolvable crisis that ended up in me losing half of my fish. I don't know why so amny fish are dying! The water tests out fine and there are no visible parasites and before I know it another fish dies for some unknown cause! Nobody loses fish like me! :-(

I keep records about when I buy a new fish and when that fish dies and the list is really long! For example, in November I lost 5 fish. . .December 12 fish. . . January 5 fish. . . February 10 fish! There isn't a single month in where I don't lose at least one fish! I don't know what else to do to keep my fish alive! :(

I am sorry to hear about your troubles and I can sympathise and empathise as I have been having problems recently.

I hope you can get through it.

((((Hugs))))

firstly, your not the worst fish keeper, at least your trying and everyone makes mistakes. I'd take a sample of water and get it tested at a couple of lfs and see what they come up with. the test kits may be out of date. also, it could just be a bad bach of fish at the lfs.

ste  :)

I brought a water to Petco so they could test it and the water tested out fine! I'm thinking that the fish at Petco aren't the best and I'll see what happens if I get fish from another pet store. Thanks for the replies! ;)

Just because you've lost some fish, you're not the worst fishkeeper. In the first two months of my tank, I lost 6 fish! Not now, though, it's doing great. It was just bad luck for me. :/

Well, in the first two weeks of February I lost 10 fish! I have no clue to why so many are dying! :-(

Do your fish show any symptons? or are they sudden deaths?
They arent stressed are they?

I have only had my tank re-set up for 3 months now and I have lost 1 tiger barb, and 2 mollies :-(
No deaths for 5 weeks

Edit: SP error

They say , "Every GREAT CHEF HAS BURNED A FEW MEALS " so your in good company , and not the worst fish keeper .How long before they die? Do you quarantine a new fish before you put it into your display ? what kind of fish are you buying ? " ,you didn't say . What is near the tank ?{cleaners ? maybe} Don't give up , I couldn't say how many of my fish have died do to mismanagement[ though not in a long while ] . At least your trying to get answers .You don't really learn by not making mistakes . Is there somewhere else besides petco to get your water tested[ste2k3 metioned 2 ] ?A second opinion , maybe 3 if you are spending alot of money . Find out how close your tanks water chemestry is to the stores tanks ,

I may be off base here, I'm still fairly new to fish keeping. But if that many fish have died in such a short span of time, does this mean you are adding several fish a week to your tank? From what I was told you should wait a few weeks between purchasing 1 or 2 new fish. Perhaps this is causing stress for the fish? I dunno that is my best guess. Hope you find the source, it breaks my heart to lose a fish. Good luck.

IME Petco doesn't have good fish. Every fish I bought there died. After about 5 or so, I went looking for a new store. I usually have to drive an hour to a good fish store and even they don't know as much as people on this forum... :/ Keep working on it! ;)

And... 43 fish in a month is rather extreme, don't you think??

-_- All the fish that died had sudden deaths. One day they're perfectly fine and the next day they're gone. I only had them a couple weeks and I add a few fish every now and then, that is when I see a good fish that catchs my eye.

 I don't quarantine any new fish because I don't have another tank available. My parents didn't want me to have one tank to satrt off with and now I have three. . . and there's no more space for another tank. All of tanks are in my bedroom and I'm the only person who cleans and cares for them. There are no chemicals near the tank and I'm really careful about spraying anything that's may be harmful to the fish.

I mostly buy livebearers and tetras and look at my signature at the botton to see what kinds of fish I have in my tank. My best guess is that the fish from Petco may not be as healthy as I think and I'm going to stop buying fish from them. I'm going to try another pet store and see how their fish are. Thank you so much for the suggestions! ;)

Hi Sasha :)

Please don't get discouraged. Everyone of us has had runs of bad luck when it comes to our fish. Keep posting and your friends here will keep helping you to find answers. Soon all will be well.

BTW, are those African Clawed Frogs or African Dwarf Frogs. If you think they are the dwarf ones, are you sure? If not, that could be part of the problem. -_-

Good thinking Inchworm!

Don't give up Sasha, try and find a small family owned fish store, you'll get better quality there. Also try and offer a wide variety of foods, healthy fish are very hardy.
