I'm super p'd off

Ive only ever had one bad outing with Melafix and thats when i mixed it with other treatments at the same time.
I always get a jug of tank water and put all treatments in there - making sure they are well mixed- I then leave them for 10 minutes to settle and to ensure there isnt any strange reactions and then i slowly add the jug of water back to the tank directly into the flow of the outlet of the filter to ensure it gets circulted properly.

Never had a problem apart from the once when i mixed melafix and stresscoat and liquisil - seemed to give me instant cloudy water that jsut got worse and worse - ended up looking like an algae bloom and i had to remove 75% of the water and washe everything out and refill

well, i was putting the full dose of melafix for my 2.5 last week each day, but without doing any water changes, as the instructions said not to change the water until the 7th day. but then i read cation's post and realized i needed to do 100% water changes every day before i added the melafix so as not to overdose the poor guys. both of my boys were fine both before when i was overdosing them, and now that i've been changing the water every day. hm, maybe it depends on the bettas' different immune systems?

all i know for sure is that melafix has worked well on bb's mangled fins.

i have 2 filters in this tank (without the active carbon as per instructions on bottle), so that may have diluted the melafix during the week i wasn't doing water changes.

I think the common denominator here that probably helped most of your bettas is the filter system.
None of my tanks have that in them.
I looked in on Archie this morning and his fins are still shredded, but they're starting to connect back up again with some clear growth...

That's how I do mine..I use a full dose and do 100% water changes everyday..just giving them a new fresh dose of meds everyday. Of course I usually do 100% WC's everyday, so not too far of a stretch for me.

I have found that after I made some spongefilters and filled them with that Amonia absorbing gravel, instead of carbon..that I can go 2 days at a time if I really need to...gives me a little break sometimes..like on the weekends when I work out of town sometimes.
