I'm Such A Pleb.

ouch...sorry to hear that. i recently took mine apart and almost did the same thing.

after i managed to remove mine i read somewhere on the net that you should warm co2 tubing with a lighter before attaching to diffusers etc!!! makes perfect sence, not tried it yet but will do when i reassember it. i suppose that could help when removing tubing. in the end i just cut off the tube above the glass and covered it in washing up liquid then gently eased it off. took about 10 mins though which was hghly frustrating but somehow i manged to resist from forcing it.

not to be a bore but had the diffuser just come out of the tank? if so watch out for infection it would have been covered in bacteria. hope it heals fast i have had plenty of one handed aquascaping sessions in the past due to cuts etc.. not a fun experience. gloves are fine but not when you need to get to the substrate. a wet suit (or dry suit) would be more appropriate. lol

Hehe, yeah a wetsuit would work ;) Also, I believe a cow "inspection" glove can be bought as an aquarium maintenance glove

It hadn't been in the tank, it was just the check valve. What I tend to do is flex the tubing in my fingers to get it warmed up with a little friction. Sorta helps but I think the lighter idea might be better. Also, perhaps a mug of hot water (from the kettle) might help too.

Anyway, to cap it all, the glass diffuser decided to divorce the "nipple" that the suction cup attaches too with minimal force. So now I have a broken diffuser. I can probably still use it, once I grind down any sharp bits. Luckily this time my fingers were well clear!

I think I'm going to just go back to a plastic bubble counter, plastic check valves and an inline plastic reactor! Glass clearly (no pun intended) doesn't like me! Of course, it could just be that I'm buying cheap chinese glass, but I can't afford to go the ADA route at the moment

I leave the CO2 tube permanently connected to the glass diffuser. I use a simple 6mm connector to connect and disconnect the diffuser for cleaning purposes.

Well, its more or less healed up now... still hurts a bit if I squeeze it, but then why would I want to be doing that? :)

I miss my fancy glass check valve :(

hey dev if by that you mean the one that comes with a gamba style bubble counter you can have mine for a couple of £ if you pm me We'll talk :good:
