hello there! a few of you have noticed my insane number of posts regarding a tank i'm planning on setting up. i've finally come to a conclusion, yaaaay!

the tank?

a ten gallon Hagen kit, complete with Aquaclear 20 gallon filter, 25 watt heater and large airstone. assorted plastic plants, multicolored gravel and a piece of driftwood for decoration. it will be left to cycle properly.

the inhabitants?

one Betta, preferably a red boy, though i'll probably fall in love with something else. a golden Apple snail, four sunburst (i think) Platties and three unknown Corydoras.

i just have ONE question. the kit comes with a thing called 'Cycle'. apparently you add it to the tank and it puts bacteria into the water. since i'm not sure if that can really be done i think it really adds ammonia into the water, causing the ammonia-munchers to multiply faster and therefore decrease the wait time. does anyone have experience with this, or reccommend it?

Sounds good to me, BettaBoyz. :D Nice assortment of fish, too.

But, since you already have a tank established, why not forget about the commercial product. You can use the first tank to clone a second and it will be ready to go right away if you just make a little bit of advance preparation.

Well sounds good however hopefully eventually you'll get a light because bettas love live plants and caves (as do cories) I've also noticed that fish do notice the difference between live and plastic plants...but hey its up to you ;)

You could always chuck the free bottle of Cycle in for luck, but personally, I don't think it will do a lot. Some of these products are also dechlorinators so if you get it anyway, you might as well use it. But "seeding" the new tank from the old is the prefered method and virtually instant.
