Please can someone make me feel better? I have had my little betta for 4 months in an aqua one tank. He was so cute and friendly and I loved him loads. Well today I came home and had a look in his tank and couldn't see him. I was looking and looking but he wasn't there, and when I looked on the kitchen top he was on there dead :( The tank has a glass lid with the tiniest little triangle section cut out so you can lift the lid. He must have jumped out of the tiny gap. I am so sad, it was horrible to see him.

Is this a common thing to have happened? I would never have thought the gap would have been big enough for him to aim at jumping through. He was pretty happy and was building a big bubble nest this morning. I feel so sad, what a horrible way for him to die :(

Thanks for reading x

Unfortunately bettas are known to like jumping. :rip:

I know that they jump but I just didn't think he'd seek out the tiny little gap to jump through :( It was even half covered with the light so he must have aimed really well. Oh I feel so sad about it :(

What? Why was it misleading? I'm feeling sad so thought someone could give me some support?

Sorry my question misled you, I am unsure why. But I didn't mean you had upset me, I meant that I am upset what had happened. I came on here as I thought someone may be able to empathise with me as it was upsetting to see him dead. I was fond of him. Thats all I meant :)

Unfortunately, this is a morbid and upsetting part of the usually fun hobby. :S
I'm unable to emphasise with you as i've got a heart of metal

That is very sad. I'm sorry, i can't make you feel better right now. I'm new to keeping fish, and only have some little Zebra Danoi, but i know how you feel. Ive seen a lot about Bettas on here and they seem really popular.
I'm sure when you see one of his friends in the shop you'll bring him home and feel a bit better. John

Hi Fish4, thanks for your reply. I have kept tropical fish for a while and have lost a few along the way but I wa sreally attached to this little one. It is sad :( It was a horrible way for him to die and he must have jumped through a very little gap. Really bad luck I think. Thanks for your kind words :)

Thanks, I don't know much about them, but have read how much people like them. I'm going to find out more, and I think i'd like one if it's suitable for me. I only joined the forum yesterday, and bar my introduction post, have only replied to two sad fish loss threads. Please don't feel bad, who would have thought it could happen like that? Things happen sometimes, and your post could help others avoid loosing their fish.
Best wishes to you.

Oh no Liam, I's really sorry to hear that :( At least you know he lived a good life. Its so sad when they go :(
