When I was a kid I remember seeing Bettas in a Pet Shop and thought they were gorgeous 
The guy said that they had to stay in those little glass cups - that I couldn't put them in a tank with other fish as he would kill them and that he wouldn't know what to do if I did put him in a big tank by himself, just keep him in the little tiny container he said So I decided that I would never own one, although very beautiful, I just couldn't bring myself to keep a fish in such a little container for its whole life, it just didn't seem right to me.
Well, having recently gotten back into fish keeping, I found this site when I needed some info and am soooo very glad I did. I read that I can keep a Betta in a bigger tank and he can even have some friends I'm so happy that I can finally buy one!! When I get my 36g tank sorted out that will be my next project, I have a lot of reading and learning to do until then though
