hey guys.. this may be a silly post but I just wanted to share my happiness with people who won't laugh at me :*)

Three weeks ago I purchased my very first betta and have him in a 1 gallon tank on my desk at work. I was sooo worried about the temp in the room, about whether he would survive..etc. But.. so far he's doing sooo GREAT!! :hyper:

He's eating like a piggy :p , he's very active and his colours have gotten soo bright.  (no bubble nest yet.. but fingers crossed!!)

I'm a mental health case manager and the office i have turns into a drop-in centre for clients in the evening. The 'members' of the centre have adopted Finnigan as their mascot and pop in to say 'hi' to him everyday. They actually are the ones who named him.. with everyone submitting names (think i had over 20 to choose from :) ) The staff of the centre have even volunteered to feed him over the weekend (one girl came in on her day off to feed him because she forgot to show the other girl where the food was :D )

Anyway.. every time I gush about Finnigan to my hubby i get 'the look'.. c'mon..you all know what that look is ;) .. so it's nice to gush to people who can be as excited as me (or at least humour me politely  )

thanks for listening!!

I am going to get my very first betta tomorrow. I have one in a 10 gallon in the living room that I feed and take care of but it isn't really MINE, it is my little sister's.

hi boozy , i know just what you mean ,always said i would never have a betta, but .....
He gets talked to , and fussed over and is more a 'pet' than the big fish tanks .
I love my big tanks but somehow Hercules the betta is so attentive , he greets me everytime i walk past but I dont live with any illusions tho ..
FOod is the attraction .His tank takes up more room on the worktop than i can spare , but i put it there anyway ..and so yes I do understand . oh! and another thing .. he doesnt talk back ...lol

I'm glad you are enjoying your betta. I love all of mine too

My hubby often gives me "that look" when I'm doing water changes or something but he does have to admit that the bettas are beautiful. He even bought me some fishy equipment for an early Mothers Day present :D so he's not all bad

I don't think betta's only like you because you feed them..I think some of them are genuinely interested in you. Otherwise they woulnd't interact with you, not saying all..but some (just like people lol), like the ones that will let you pet them...or scoop them out by hand to do water changes....I truly think those betta's enjoy human companionship.

I get that look at work all the time...but it seems anyone who "truly" enjoys any type of animal interaction more then just " yeah, I have a dog..his names bob" get's "that look" lol. I'm proud to get that look :D.

When I lean over to look in at Amos, he swims madly (against his current now in his 5 gallon tank) over to me and wiggles back and forth as he stares back at me. They definitely love to look at you just as much as you love to look at them. Just think of all the places you get to go in one day's time. Then think of all the places they get to go in one day's time. Can you blame them for being ELATED when someone looks in on them?
