Im Redoing My Room

i agree with java moss but i've heard hornwort needs quite a rich nutrient substrate plus they prefer cool water, not entirely sure but thats what i heard
My hornwort is doing great. I have left it floating and it just kind of forms a cascade from the top of my 55 to the botttom. Great for all the guppy fry I have now. Tank temp has been low 80's all summer and it tolerates it fine. Just trim all the yellowing or brown bits close as possible to the big stem when you get it and plunk it in the tank. My 55 only has 15 watts of light over it because with both lights on the tank gets too hot. Both hornwort and java moss are doing fine and growing well.

ill upgrade within 2 months or lessQuestion:I would like to have something besides barbs to go with our tiger barbs in our aquarium. I didn't know they would hit other fish. I have put in different fish that pet stores suggest and the barbs kill them. It's scary to my kids so I don't want to bring anything else home until I'm sure. Any suggestions?in my opion i would go with blue paradise gorumies or dwarf gorumies
do you have children then grimmy?

hi alessasavoca, i get my food from ace pets in ashford but fish and expensive bits from ark pets just outside canterbury, they also have branches at maidstone and gillingham that i use.

Thanks I was asking as my boyfriend is from Rye, and although he doesn't live there anymore (I turned him into a Dorset lad apart from the Sussex accent lol) we visit his mum and dad regularly (who also have a tank) and I'm always on the look out for different fish/etc and a good place for him mum and dad to go. Since the place they used to use shut down they've been asking me to get stuff and take it up with me :) ! Do any of these shops have any unusual fish, mainly bottom feeders or different types of siamese fighters?

they are very good at canterbury. lots of oddball fish, puffers etc and seem to give very good advice. they will lose a sale rather than sell you something that is not compatable with what you have. they are in the wyevale garden center ashford side of canterbury. and no i dont work there before someone asks!

Grimmy - instead of the tiger barbs why dont you look at getting some pentazona (sp?) barbs. They look similar (still striped but narrower bodies) and are much less aggressive. if its the look of the tiger barbs you like then these are a good alternative which wont harm your other fish.

If its the personality of the tiger barbs you want then you need to reconsider some of your other fish.
