I’m really liking this variety of Anubias I wish I could find more…

Hi,

I have 2 plants that look very similar to your. I can't remember what they called them in the aquarium store.

I have noticed when the lights are off in the tank the leaves move downward. Then when they seem to have enough light when the tank light are on the leaves move upwards almost vertical.

I have was thinking this might be happening to they can reduce there light exposure.

On the most mature leaves ( tallest ), the tips are within 2 inches of the surface, I had heard that these like low to medium light, and are very slow growing, as I have 2 full length LED light bars over this tank, because of the dark water, and the depth… I originally saw it looked like it was suffering, so I’ve tried several floating plants over the top of this plant, and it looks pretty healthy today, with the shaded light… the tank is open topped, so it could grow emergent, if it desired… the ryzomes were just stuffed through holes in a plastic hollow log, and it seems to be thriving…

I have another 24 inch deep tank, on the other side of this group of tanks, ( my medium Cichlid tank ) currently with only Java fern in it… there is another hollow log, like this one, in that tank, that I may try adding a new one to… I would probably wait a bit, as I changed out the terrestrial plants in that tank, and have some new Pothos vines starting… as I start to see some shade from them, would be a good time to add the Congensis…

Most Anubias respond well to cutting the rhizomes. Although they grow slowly cutting does accelerate the growth. When I want to propagate I typically split every 3-4 weeks. Still requires patience but easy to do.
