Im legally changing my name....

My first name is Greg, but people have been erroneously calling me "Gary" my whole life. Compared to what they do to my last name, Gary isn't much of an issue.
I sometimes joke with my wife that I should change the spelling of my last name, in order to more closely match one of the horrible mispronunciations people use, but there are too many to choose from.
Occasionally, when I spell my last name for those who have needed it, they will pause and ask "Are you sure?"
Yes, I'm pretty sure.
LOL! when I was 20 I found out that my mom spelled my nam wrong. I had been writing Angela not knowing that she spelled it with an I in it.

I joined the Air Force that year but my recruiter actually changed the spelling on my California I.d. and social security cards to Angelia so that I could be ā€œlegalā€.

Nice to know you finally got your name sorted šŸ‘

In the UK for it to be proper legal binding you should see a solicitor like i did and it goes through them and you pay them but before it's fully accepted your then sent to another solicitor where you swear on the bible pay Ā£5 and the papers are signed by that solicitor and stamped for legal purposes, these over the net don't carry the legal change of name like a solicitor.

@Tez_20 - Iā€™m not certain that you do need a solicitor to change your name? I though you can manage a deed poll by yourself..?

You can but i read and this was ages ago as i was going to do it that way, that through a solicitor and having 2 documents which are stamped legally stands higher than a deed poll but things are changing constantly as we both know.

I've not looked up since so i could be wrong.

I've just found the difference.

How can I prove that I Have Changed my Name?
You can simply use the deed poll as evidence of your change of name. If you wish to go further to prove the change of name, you can enroll the deed poll in Central Office of the Supreme Court. A fee is payable to the court. This will create a public record of the change of name.

My mom messed up my disabled sisterā€™s name too, but she got her last name changed for free in California because she has a low income!

Two years ago. She had to go to court though.

Mildenhall?
If this was during the 80s id put good money on my Mrs having surrounded the camp with the sisters to save the world from nuclear destruction while she was at Cambridge.

Awwwwwwwwhhhhhh mmmmmmaaaaaaannnnnn. Ive taken no notice of this thread as I thought it was about changing the OPs FFN name! Apologies all round.
Best of luck to all who feel the need.
Stay safe everyone, itā€™s not over yet.

Erin Sybil M.

Erin Grace M.

Erin Isabella M.

That is the question....Erin Marie is just so extremely plain, Erin is a strong, nice, traditional name, and so is Marie. So basically too much strength, tradition, and niceness. If I am changing my name I might as well go all the way
