My LFS has some adolfi cories and they are amazing, I wish I could have a tank just full of these, but at £17.99 each its well out of my range.

Anyone got any?

I've been oggling some Cories recently some of them are very very nice! But I agree when they get up towards £20 each they do get a bit pricey for a decent sized school!

I love all the black and white species :)

i agree i adore all bottom feeders but even the likes of bronse corydoras or khuli loaches aren't nearly as cheap as tiger barbs or neons considering they're just as common and the same sort of sizes i just don't understand why even the cheapest of bottom feeders will cost you upwards of 20 quid for a decent shoal

Wow, that is expensive, I have a group of 14 adolfoi, started with 6 & kept some from a few spawns.
Duplicareus are very similar to adolfoi but cheaper if you can get them, I have a group of those as well

I have two groups, one acquired four years ago and the second this past summer, and both were labelled as Corydoras adolfoi, but I am fairly certain the first is C. duplicareus and perhaps the second too.  Some sources suggest the width of the dorsolateral black stripe is significantly wider, and the post orbital fleck is a more vivid orange on C. duplicareus, but apparently this is not always reliable.  The only external difference according to some reliable sources is the pectoral fin spine, which is smooth on C. adolfoi and slightly serrated on C. duplicareus.  One has to examine this fin under magnification to see this, something I have not done.  [Lillefishy, have you checked this out on your two groups?]

Sometimes the black dorsolateral stripe extends well up into the dorsal fin, making it completely black; I have one like this in my second group, and this is indeed one beautiful cory.  The black stripe extends about half way down the body horizontally.  If I remember later after the tank lights are on, I'll try to get a photo.

This species, whichever it is, spawns readily in the right conditions (soft water on the acidic side).  I have one fry that hatched and managed to survive in the 115g and is now the size of the original fish.  My second group I put in a different tank as I was not sure if they were the same species or not.

Yes, mine have all been correctly identified & are kept separate so no mix ups happen.
The one you mention where the stripe extends up the dorsal fin is black is possibly C121

That could be.  I was hoping my latest bunch were wild caught, and of course if one can discern the origin (creek or stream) that pretty much settles the identification since these species are endemic to specific streams and do not mix.  But this batch came from SE Asia, so they were possibly raised in outdoor ponds and any amount of mixing might have occurred with no way of verifying.

One day when I am rich I will have a massive shoal of these with Altums.....
