Walmart, Walmart, Walmart...

*sighs*

Okay, so I've vowed countless times never to buy any more bettas from Walmart. Okay, so I've broken these vows...ooh, I'd say every single time.

I happen to work at the local Walmart as an overnight stocker, and every morning in the last 5 minutes of my shift I have to walk by the fish section. It's a habit now. Well, it just so happened that the two betta cups that I've seen on the shelf for the last few nights were still sitting there, so I went to investigate. Upon reaching my target, I noticed that there are two lovely turquoise VT boys sitting in cups looking incredibly depressed...one was sitting diagonal in the water (I know...they actually had enough water to do this!) and one was laying on his side on the bottom. Well, being the betta lover I am, and currently owning 11, I picked the boys up for inspection, and nearly crapped myself when I noticed the prices on them...$2.43, instead of the normal $4.67. Oh holy wow!
Now, not only is this great, but I also get a 10% discount on top of this, which makes it even happier. I'm going back to get my new twins as soon as I've got water in nice bowls for them (which I happen to have 2 of just laying around).
They're going to need some serious TLC, as they've got badly torn tails, but as far as I could see there was no trace of fungus/finrot or any other such thing on either of them - just tears, so I'll just give them a little Melafix and hopefully they'll feel better once they're in proper amounts of water.

It's funny how things happen. Almost like it's meant to be. It was just last night I filtered the last of my baby brine shrimp out of the two bowls that they were in and put them into another jug, leaving me with two empty betta homes, and 3 days ago I filled a bucket with tap water to age in my room, and I've been thinking lately that it's ages since I've seen the bettas on special. I'm destined to have new twins!

Whoo-hoo!

Right - I can't sit still any longer. I'm going to get them some nice new homes set up and then go and pick them up.

Sorry, guys - I'm just so excited! More babies for me!

Awww those twins are going to be so happy when they come home with you

Look forward to seeing pics when they're settled in

Name each one Nóng , Nóng-Nóng...means Brothers in Thai.

Name one Chăn and one Nán , Chăn Nán ...means Simliar in Thai.

:fun:

That is so sad. Since you work there, can't they let you take 15 min a day changing betta water, and looking after the sick fish? Or would they let you do in on your lunch, or break? You would think they would be glad to have someone help out if it is for free.

It really bothers me to think they may have marked them down because they were not well

Bettas on special?
They are $3.84 here, all the time.
I look in those pitiful little cups and think....
That's a LIFE in there. And they only want $3.84 for it.
It makes me sad.

BUT..
I'm very glad that they're so inexpensive so I can afford to buy them whenever I want to. And buying one will just mean that I'll have to skip a milkshake or some petty little thing like that for a day.

Congrats on your new boys - I can't wait to see pics of them when you get them :)

*Sniffs*

I had to do some running around today and when I got to the store, someone had stolen one of my boys. I did manage to get one of them though, so I'm more than happy. He's lovely - he's got a purple body and blue, burgandy and white fins/tail. He seems to have settled in almost instantly...he's already eaten a load of brine shrimp and some pellets and he's swimming around flaring at...umm, well I'm not too sure. Everything really! I want to try and get his tail and gill healed, and then I'll be taking pictures of him and his 11 adopted brothers.

Walmart made a big oopsie though...he's got two holes in his tail and a sticking out gill, but he appears to have a bit of Crowntail in him. Aside from the little holes and the broken gill, he's spotless. He's massive when he's displaying and the rays on his tail and fins are quite a bit longer than the rest, and appear to be doubled. It'll take time to know for sure though, once he's in perfect condition again, but it looks that way so far.

As for me taking care of the fish on my break/lunch/anything, it's not going to happen. I asked about it and they said that they won't allow me to work off the clock, so in my lunch, and if you're caught working in your break you can get a warning for it. It's ridiculous, really, since it doesn't take 5 minutes and I'm more than willing to do it for free. I have "accidentally" split shampoo bottles and things a few times and had to go to the sink for paper towel, and once there cleaned the bettas out, but I can only do so much. Hopefully they'll come round soon...

...hehe, he's flaring at me again...
