I'm getting COMPLETELY fed up

ewwy. I am lucky here cause our apartment stays abnormally warm...bout 75 to 80. My betta tanks are normally at 78.

Get a decent heater, mines a rubbish brand and it fluncs all the time.

I just got COMPLETELY fedup with the fluctuations and it was pretty obvious that he was getting fed up with them too.
I know i'm going to end up getting a heater that is meant for that size of tank, I just know it. I just don't want to breakdown and go out and get it, but I probably might as well. Eventually I will.

When I left this morning, he was up to about 74. I'm raising the temp slowly - he was at 72 last night when I put him in. I can't wait til he gets better so Archie can go in too!
