I have soft water, and my Neos flourish.

Stop adding anything but Prime during WC's. A STABLE PH and KH are much safer than ones that fluctuate all of the time.

I would never add a "cave" made of food, either...

I use a chunk of cuttlebone that just sits in the back. It hasn't affected the ph too much and the shrimps are doing wonderfully.

Do the shrimp eat the cuttlebone or does it just dissolve over time? I have cuttlebone, but it doesn't seem to dissolve and I haven't seen them really hanging out on it.

I'm actually not sure. It just sorta sits there and it hasn't been touched by us since we put it in. My brother managed that and he just said that the shrimp need it.
