Im Back Am Ready To Go,just A Few More Questions

Hi Mark,
Have you got all the stuff you require now? Is the tank up and ready to go if it is I feel that a lack of picture is against Forum rules! :good:

hey mike

nope not yet!! im having my stand modded by TAC and that will include a sump and phos reactor custom fitted!!

i have 40kg of LR now,so thats the big expense out of the way.

by the way guys i looked at a copperband at TAC and it was bloody huuuuge!! like a tea saucer, lol

can i ask what gobys can i have that dont get to big,but are not tiny?

well go myself an RO unit today, and i further 30 kg of LR,i now have 70KG,lol

i wont be uisng it all so, some wil be for sale soon

all i need now is my stand to be finished, thats being modded for a 3ft sump and im away

my question is and it very stupid but needs to be asked.

i fill my tank up with 400L ish of ro water, sump not sure how much that holds yet,add the salt to the correct salinity (whats ideal?) and get the temp to 26 degrees ish?

then add my live rock, which will inturn raise the water level and spill over the tank,so do i just half fill the tank and add the rock,or fill the whole tank and remove the water thats needed when i add the LR,to stop spilling.

hope that makes sense

I would have the tank 2/3 filled with the saltwater (at an sg of 1.026 if you are keeping corals) and with the pumps/heaters etc on. Then add the rock, and when that's done add the rest of the water to fill the tank to the correct level.

sounds like a good idea, but my rock may sit higher than that so i could just add the water to suit the rock?

also i could fill the whole tank up and when adding the LR,syphon what i dont want out

Here's what I did when I added my LR (just recently)

Fill the water up to the rim of the overflow at an SG you want (1.024-1.026). Open the valves for the sump, but do not fill it at all. When you add the rock, it will overflow into the sump, but keep your SG and temp the same, so your rock and any hitchhikers should be fine. This also allows you to stack rock as high as you want etc.

Once the rock is in, fire up the powerheads and whatnot, but you don't have to fill the sump right away. Mix some water to the same SG as your display tank and throw an extra heater in there to get it to the same temp, then just add water similar to how you would do a water change. Turn on the return pump and you are done.

Mark the 400 took about 280 litres first off - heated that up and brought the sg up to 1.026 (which is what you need for corals) - put the rest on to heat up and mix over night

Next day put in my live rock, just plonked it in, this displaced around 70 or so litres, so then i was up to about 350 litres, I did top off a bit more, think it was about 25 litres or so

Then i played about with the aquascaping
