ok, 1 of my clown loaches is ill. he has a sheen on his skin so his black stripes look grey. I do clean my tank regulary and it is normally an established community but the clown loach and 2 guppies (see other post - ill guppies) are now ill with diff things so am wondering if its the 2 algae eaters i added 2 weeks ago or if i'm doing something wrong...

Do you have any tank parameters? What are the ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels?

Okay, you mentioned a 'sheen' on his skin. Take a flashlight and shine it on him. If it looks like he has a fine dusting of gold on him, then it is probably velvet. I've never had to treat velvet, but there are plenty of medications out there for it. You'll probably want to pull him out of that tank and put him in a hospital tank if possible. That about exhausts my knowledge, though, if it's not velvet. You might want to inquire in the loach forum too, since they have more specific knowledge and experience sometimes. Good luck with him.

damn. Not sheeny like velvet is... was just reading up on that actually! will try the loach bit..

thx for all the help!
