I have so many empty tanks at the moment... (whilst refurbishing my fishroom).... I might as well breed these tomorrow.....

Their previous brood (now 3 weeks old)

I just know that they will breed about 30 minutes after I set them up to breed..... (they've been seperated for almost 3 weeks).... I'll try get some photos of the breeding procedure.....

How can you tell a male lionhead oranda from a female? I also need to know the same with black moors. My friend has 2 goldfish, 1 lionhead oranda and 1 black moor, and she wants to know what genders they are.

Look at the Gillplates of the fish..... The males have tubercles on them which resembles little pimples.... the females do not have these.

Oops!... sorry ... I was wrong.... Spawning started about 3 minutes after I put them together.... I'll try get the camera ready & take a few shots..... Once they are busy spawning... no intervention will stop them... I can even put my hand in there.... They'll spawn around my hand....

Lovely Fish Ludwig ! Can i ask does the sexing of goldfish work the same with Koi ? My partner has a few koi and would love to breed them but is unsure on how to sex them lol . Also any tips on how to get them into ample breeding mode ?

Yes Kizz... Koi are Goldfish (in a sense) and the are sexed in the same way..... To successfully breed Koi however, you need plenty of dam space.... (we're talking ponds of - (minimum) 8m x 3m and on average about 1m deep)....and for routine breeding... you'll need at least 9 to 12 of those....

The best way to stimulate them to breed is to seperate them for about 2 weeks.... Condition them on good quality pellets.... Place them together (after dark) on the evening before you intend to spawn them in a pond where the water is around 500cm deep.... then, next morning as the sun rises... you fill the pond with fresh water to around 800cm depth.....(use 2 males for every female) they will spawn and if you have lots of plants in there.... around 50,000 eggs will be laid. They will take up to around 6 hours to complete the spawn when the adults must be removed.... You should haul around 10,000 or more and the procedure can be repeated at around 3 week intervals.

Anyone who has seen breeding activities of egg scatterers before will know exactly what is going on in these pics..... Those who have not seen it before..... Look & Learn.... this is egg scatterers breeding...... (in particular..... watch the 2 pinkies)
