If You Had A 125l Tank, What Would You Breed?

Anymore ideas? Did I read somewhere that galaxy rasboras were endangered in the wild now? They might be a reasonable idea aswell maybe?

Not that they need to be rare/endangered. Just something that a bit rarer in the trade. As in, isn't regularly seen in the lfs but gets snapped up quickly when they are in stock.

Also, I guess I don't want to completely rule out shrimp etc, but in a tank that size with such an expensive filter attached I'd rather be looking to stock fish.

i would recommend convicts or firemouth cichlids, you would need like 6 juvi's and then wait for a pair, then rehome the other 4, but convicts breed like rabbits, well, from what i have heard. plus these fish will bring up their young

:)

I'd definitely like something that's bit harder to find in your lfs though. Either because many specimens are imported and therefore their availability is seasonal. OR, because they require a species only tank to breed in a home aquarium.

One small fact you need to address is the the commercial viability of such a venture, not so much in monetary value (I've bred thousands of fish and I'm still skint) but the ability to move juvenile fish on to new homes either through the LFS or other means. For example there's not much point breeding Kribs or such like as the ability to shift such species is limited.

That's a good point and I had ruled kribs out for that reason. I'm only actually jotting ideas down that are fish that are able to go into community set-ups *Nods* and nothing over 10-15cm size. As even if they are peaceful I think any bigger than that and I'd be severely limiting the ability to find homes for the babies.number of suitable homes I could find.

some lazer corys? you would only need probably 3-4 because you have cories already, or even maybe some zebra plecs :p :shifty:

Wow this was awhile back...lol.

Technically I wouldn't have any fish in the 125 already if I started breeding stuff in it. This was a 'what if' type thread.

And although zebra plecs are gorgeous and in theory bring a good re-sale price. I wouldn't want the responsibility of such expensive fish. A £4-6 galaxy rasbora is about as expensive as I would want to get.

I think those fish really are stunning to look at. Or Emerald dwarf rasbora, they are also very very pretty. :) I could section one side off for holding adults and one side for spawning. Then raise the fry in the spawning side...:D
