Hi!

Can anyone please identify these two breeds?

1 . True Siamese Algae Eater, False Siamese Algae Eater, Flying Fox or Chinese Algae Eater? (C.A.E is pretty much out of the question)

2 . Flame Head Tetra or Rummy Nose Tetra?

Cheers for any help!

the first is a Siamese Flying Fox or Crossocheilus siamensis

It's a rummy nose tetra, never heared if a "Flane head" though! guess gust the shop's idea to thy to sell more or something.

You see this is what I was sold it as. (a flying fox), But then a friend who has had flying foxes thinks it is not a flying fox as it has only 1 pair of barbels, and its black stripe on the tail fork is that of a S.A.E .

I have just found this link http://www.thekrib.com/Fish/Algae-Eaters/ that helped a bit, but would like to know exactly which breed this is!

From the link, I would say siamese algae eater, from the photos I can see only 1 band running from its nose through to its tail.

Looks like a true SAE to me.

I'd say the 2nd is a Hemigrammus rhodostomus, but my tetra IDs aren't that great. Neither I nor Google knows what a flame head tetra is.

There are three types of fish which are commonly sold as Rummy Nose Tetras.

I would explain more but my battery is about to die on my laptop!

Maybe later :)

I have read that the flying fox has the black strip going into the tail and a coloured strip beow the black line.

this rules out the flying fox
