Well, you could try a small group of shellies if this is what you are looking for. N Multies would work ok. You could also look into N Similis or N Occelatus although the latter could be challenging in a 10g tank...

Or you could switch to apistogramma species it's not africans, but they'd look good and fit on a 10 gallon.....
