I am getting a 48x15deep x 12 tank tomorrow. Adam wants to try his hand at a species tank but I dunno. what do you all think and what species would be best? i was thinking of just having another community tank but a different one than the one in my siggy. ideas comments anything?? im putting the tank for cycling soon.

Go with schools of tetras.
Get 8 lemon, 8 red serpae, 8 black skirts, 8 columbian and 5 cory cats.
Use lots of plants (plastic or real)
Randall :alien:

I take Adam is your hubby?

What is the estimate in US Gallons?

Yes he is :) its about 31us i think..

I want lota of schools but adam wants something different, more bigger. I was gonna put my gold gouramis in there when they get bigger with one of my sharks and then do that kind of community but thats totally up to adam as I am still getting my upgrade for my community tank at the end of the year anyways. I just dont want him to mess up thats all :)

It would be hard for him to get a species tank with something that small.

Maybe a few rainbow fish, killiefish, and maybe 4 cory cats?

Oh 5 would be too much, how about a group of 10 rummy rose tetras?

A lot as in, well depends. It's hard to explain-

See You have a 30 gallon tank. Each cory needs what 25 gallons? So if you get 5 their gallon usage would be 150 gallons plus the need for the other fish. That would mean you would have to use a 350 GPH filter. And if your substrate is going to be more than 1 - 1.5 inches thick you will have problem with detritus. unless you accompony your main filter with an undergravel filter being it be gravel and not sand you will keep things clean. Than theres the issue of live plants, and cories are bottem dweller from what I have seen. So those tablets you throw into the ank for the bottem guys get hidden away sometimes which would cause clarity problems. So why not the school of tetras?

i had 3 years ago and they were happy. I personally think it depends some times they need 5 and some time some groups are fine with 3.

6 black neons... 3 corys.... 3 other fish

Corys like to be in 5 or more groups.

whats that orange fish in ur avatar.

Looks like a killie fish and a albino shark

Here revised spelling

Than there’s the issue of live plants and cories are bottom dweller from what I have seen. The orange fish is my gold gourami with my albino shark. they are the best of friends and dwell in the gave all the time :)

I have had corys in all my tanks from small 3fts to long 4fts like the one I have now and they seem to be more active and social with 5 or more although 1 will look happy but it wont be in itsself, you see them more and they are more active in 5's or more.
