Living at the foot of the sperrins in n.ireland i have an abundance of mountain streams, rivers and close by lough neagh. In 2-3weeks im going to strip down my tank and start all over as i have a tank that just will not cycle (going 12 weeks, explained in different thread). Well ive the idea of creating a river bed with sandy/pebbly bottom. with the abundance of rivers and streams could i just use what i have close by??
could i use the sand stones from the mountain streams or am i being mad :blush:

this is how it currently looks, i think it looks a bit cluttered and i HATE that big filter/heater box. soon to be changed to an external tetratec filter :good:

I would think give everything a scrub or boil before it goes in and just be careful which rocks use (nothing too porous with iron content? there are certian types).

That will be a gorgeous looking tank :)

Im really dissheartened with the whole fish keeping thing and needed this project to get my head sorted. Seen a picture in a mag and want it similar with my own twist. Planning on having;
Large pebel bottom with small pebels scattered on top then sand lightly across and built up toward one corner. kinda like going from the river bed to the bank.
Also a few java ferns and some nice wood close to the bank.
Hope it all gos well im startin to collect things this weekend :yahoo:

thanks neil.
