Id These Cichlid

I wouldn't do Zebras. IME it would be hit or miss. you could have some docile ones or cold blooded killers. I had a zebra and it killed one of my cichlids and almost killed another

I dont want to be rude but that could have had as much to do with the amount of fish you had at the time, I have always kept Red Zebras and always in well stocked tanks. They are among the more peaceful fish in my tank/s most of the time (although they do have their moments!).

Notice how I said "In my experience." The cichlids that I have left are extremely peaceful. I just happened to be one of the unlucky people who had an extremely aggressive red rebras, hence the wording "hit or miss." A lot of people would say the same thing. Also, the Op did ask what was though ;)

Thank you for testing my observational skills! lol! I only said 'in my tanks'. Were both just relaying experience / opinion, thats what the forum is for. I'd hate for the OP to decide against Red Zebras just because they only got one response of a bad experience as they are beautiful fish and are not always highly aggressive.

OP, you could end up with an aggresive fish, you might not but as a Malawi owner you might as well be prepared to do some swapping in/out if there are any rotters upsetting the balance of your tank!

Anytime, but when you start a sentence with "i don't mean to be ruse" it completely changes the tone of the comment :) So i am going to respond how its taken :) But no worries. Glad you have had good luck with them. I think we just ended up with a really bad zebra. My jewel cichlid is more docile in my Mbuna tank than the Zebra was, which leads me to believe that it isn't my current stock.

If you go with Zebras, add them with a group of fish and re-arrange your decor a little that way territories can be re-established.

Yeah I do groups of six at a time, plus redecoration every time.

Well i hope, if you get zebras that you have better luck than I did :) If you really like them, as was previously stated by others, don't let one persons experience deter you. You may have a great experience with them.

I didnt, I started it with "I dont want to be rude not ruse lol :hyper:
Seriously though, it wasnt meant to change the tone or get your back up but I appriciate the way you could have taken it (a better choice of words in future perhaps!). Anyway, what I meant was you and I both know that in smaller numbers Malawis can pick on individual fish. I also think this can make them appear more aggressive as you notice it more.

Are you sticking with the zebra's??

What else can you get hold of? Most Metriaclima species get to be a large chunky fish.
