Just got him home from my LFS. He is blue-grey, and 6 inches long from tail tip to claws ends (sorry about the picture quality). He (or perhaps, she) arrived today mixed in with a large shipment of piranha from S. America, so pretty lucky to get here with all parts intact. Not at all shy, he's exploring every inch of his new home and going through the gravel looking for food at the moment.

Near impossible to tell from that description and angle of photo get one where we can actually see the colouration of the critter and its body shape from the side. Its either macrobrachium sp. (range from highly aggressive to minor but with oppurtunistic tendencies) or palaeomentes sp. (very little aggression to oppurtunistic tendencies). Is it in a tank with any fish that sleep on the substrate? check for nips in the tail fin. Live plants? Snails (species info would be great even if just general)? Tankmates?

Hi guys. Try this new photo, which I hope is better.

His tank-mates were various types of Tetra, which have had to be removed as he is definitely not fish friendly. So far, he has shown no interest in the snails and plants in the tank. One thing I have noticed is that he is not at all shy – as many long-arm shrimps are. He is constantly prowling about and has shown no interest in sheltering in his cave.

I can tell you a few species he isn't  He might be a Macrobrachium olfersii, its from the South America and is about the right size and colour.

Can you get a photo showing the claws?
