keep in mind that most bristlenoses don't start out with bristles, but they slowly start to appear as the fish nears sexual maturity. i've just a common male bn, but he didn't have any bristles to speak of until he passed 3".

depending on the species, somewhere between 4 & 8 inches. most top out around 6"
