We were sold 'Mr Catfish' as an ancistrus that would only get to 5/6 inches...

He was only about 1 inch when we got him,

Anyway it soon became obvious he wasn't a standard ancistrus (eg bristle nose)

I've been through PlanetCatfish and failed to find a close match

Anyone care to ID him?

He posed nicely this evening (its taken 3 days to get this shot!)

even with the lyretail??

not that its a problem... He's loved anyway - whatever he is :)

Maybe so. I've seen several selectively bred Plecos that have strange alterations to them like some Bristlenoses with butterfly like fins that flow way out. I'lll look around PlanetCatfish too and see if I can find a match. Sometimes they have the variant bred strains listed too.

Looks like a Glyptoperichthys scrophus or Chocolate Pleco, Rhino Pleco to me.

I think we have a winner.... just gone through a load of piccys of the Glyptoperichthys scrophus and some of them look just like him :)

He / She has an ID - Yay!

now... about sexing him / her :D

Don't those have "horn" protrusions though? Maybe it's my monitor isn't showing the picture very bright or something but I don't see them.

Yup, I know of many of those, those are definitely Rhino Plecos. I have two.. My cousin has one and the pet store near my place sells tons of those guys. I love them to peices.

:)

bump....

I just thought I'd bung this back to the top to see if any of the new people have any thoughts...

I'm not sure it's a rhino anymore. His nostrils arn't as big as some of the pics of them i've now seen...

I have a thought... I've got an L001 (Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus) and it looks like your fella (or lass) there.

The pictures on planet catfish show the marking clearly. :kana:
