Doesnt sound good. Came from a tank with lots of these but also lots of healthy toadstools and mushrooms. Will it ever regain any colour? It seems happy enough expanding and contracting with the lighting and has grown noticably since we got that peice of rock.

if they don't stress and die after they bleach, then quite often they turn green or brown from the zooxanthellae they capture from the water. If you have a UV steriliser on the tank or a protien skimmer, then turn them off for a week or two so the phytoplankton can grow. Then the coral can capture some and start to culture it inside its tissue. If you have a plankton friendly skimmer then you can leave it running.
They normally start to regain some colour within a month depending on light.

Being co-owner of this coral ;) I was wondering if there were any other suggestions as to what it could be? It certainly seems to be growing nicely in the tank and looks very pretty

Sheena :flowers:

Could be a bleached out Rhodactis (or was it Rhodactus?) species "mushroom".

It certainly does not look like any other shrooms i have seen. The polyps are a different shape and are more like holes into the coral just like squirts have, and the texture and feel is wrong for any that i have had or seen close up. seems odd that a bleached out coral would be growing so nicely after loosing its beneficial algea so long ago (we have had it 8 weeks and the shop had it 4 weeks prior to that).

We bought the rock as a 'mushroom rock' as it had some nice ones on it, the coral pictured was just a small spongy white growth when we first got it and its 'bloomed' from there.

It looks like my cabage leather..lol but a bit lighter in colour. Same flesh and even the tiger striping in the flesh is the same. same shape also until I chopped mine in half as it was getting large , only diff is mine is more of a pinky peach in colour. Even has the same polyp arangment .
