Most of my friends fish have ick. She has them in a 10g (about 10 small fish). She doesn't want to use medication just yet as it is too expensive for her. Should I recommend salt and of cycle or what?? Thanks for you help in advance :)

$4.79 is too expensive for her? If so give up the fish hobby now.
Thats what I paid for a bottle of maracide(worked extremely well FYI) the bottle will treat like 70 gallons.

if they're tropical she should elevate the temp to 85 F and do daily water changes. adding salt definatly helps but it's not completely necessary.

I know of people who find adding salt and putting the temp up does the trick on it's own.

Aquarium salt costs money though wich could be used on meds and also not all fish can handle salt.

Why not share?

Ok well I guess she doesn't want to buy anything else. She has aquarium salt and cycle. Oh, I guess I should say she just did her monthly 'big' water change and changed the filter media (I think that was a bad idea... but o well)- maybe that is what is causing the stress in the fish?

Yeah, that'll do it.

I never change filter media. There's a very good chance that she'll have to cycle the tank again as she has in effect removed the majority of the good bacteria from the tank.

I did the exact thing for my betta without meds and it worked. took a while but it worked. I had it at 85 F until all the ick was gone which took about a week from beginning to end.
