8) 8) Hi, I was hoping someone could help me out. I have a small 30 gallon, that I've had for a year. Most of the fish I have are livebearing, so of couse I, keep salt in the tank, and the temp set at 82. Also I've have not bought fish in about 9 months, so I have 2nd and 3rd generations. I always have enough fish to give away, and my plants are doing well. I thought I knew what I was doing. I do weekly water changes, my ph is a constant 7.4. I, have zero ammonia, and trace nitrites and nitrates. Now my problem started a week ago when one of my prize male molly died. I thought it was due to a fight he had. It was like Mike Tyson, and Lenox Louis. Anyway two days later a female molly died (she was my favorite, her name was Blanca). I, also noticed a juvenile sailfin hiding and not eating(normally a very out going dude). so I started a hospital tank with my old 10 gallon which I know I should have kept going for a quaritine or hospital tank, but my excuse is I moved or should say I left my husband in a rush, hence ex angel. Anyway, I started giving the sailfin antibotics, and doing tests over and over again to make sure there was nothing wrong with the integrity of the water. So then later that night I had two more mollies come down with whatever was going on in my tank. Also my Beta(Mr. Beta), started to blow up like a balloon! Poor Mr. Beta!
So when I, place Mr. Beta in the hospital tank I see the ick or what looks like ick, but he is the only one I can see it on. The others in the hospital look like they have had some scales removed! So I started ick treatments in both my hospital tank, and my main tank. Well the next day everyone in my main tank started to scratch themselves, like there was no tommorrow, on the plants. Well, needless to say, I 've kept up with the treatments, with today being the fifth day. My babies are still scratching a little, should I keep up with treatments, or should I treat for another protazoan? My friends in the hospital are doing much better, I have not seen them scratch though. Poor Mr. Beta is still a bubble, but the salt spots are gone. Oh brother, I hate this crap, I am so stressed out. It's funny, I've been so careful, or I thought I was. I stopped buying fish and plants for this reason. I did not want to take the chance and the bother of disease or parasites! So how could I have gotten this problem, if my fish have basically been isolated for so long? Is it possible that the first fish I started with had things that were dormant? How can that be? The older fish are not in the hospital. So could this have come from the air, the food, or water? Please could someone give a clue or two?
