Ich?

I dealt with ich and beat it a while ago. You have to remove the filter cartridge if it's got carbon in it, as the carbon removes all medication from the water (as you've read in the description). Keep following the directions on the bottle and on this forum (keep a higher temp., keep the tank clean) and you'll beat it with time. The ich remedy you've purchased will work with time, it's probably the same as quICK cure but under a different name.

Good luck!

Every fish seems to be recovering well except for one of the clown loaches. He has become very sluggish and now spends more time lying on the gravel than swimming. I hope he recovers in the next few days. :-(

Also, I was advised by my lfs to put something in place of my filter pad so that it still filters. I was told of some nylon scourers balls or something. Could anyone provide a pic so I know what to get next time Im out?

I'm sure that if you needed to, you could just make some sort of contraption yourself. The only purpose it would serve would be mechanical filtration, so if you wanted to you could simply cut open one of your current filter cartridges, remove the carbon from it, and use that as a temporary cartridge while you are treating your tank. I didn't use any cartridge when I was treating, however, and it worked well. Keep us posted, and good luck.

I havent replaced my current pad yet so I dont have any spares. Ive nearly had the tank running for about 2 months.

Next time I'm in the supermarket I'll probably just pick up some nylon scouring pads.

Hi there,

I hope the fish are doing well.... ?

Somebody earlier in the thread recommended adding salt. Just to check that you havent done it really, as Clown Loaches (being scaless) will not like it, and will possibly burn and stress them out more than the disease and meds will......

Keep us posted on how the little'ns are doing.... :)

Good Luck

Loaches are napping in the rock atm. Tetras are swimming around as per normal. All spots on the tetras are gone except for one of the neons. Loaches still have spots though. Water is a little cloudy. Tested for Nitrite and all is clear. I believe I should also get an ammonia test kit, is it worth it?

Also, yes I am aware of the clown loaches being scaleless and have put in the half dosage, havent added any salt either.

I am sorry to say that one of my clown loaches didnt make it through the night. :-(

Last night he was resting on his side breathing quite rapidly. I awoke to find him not breathing at all. :-(

R.I.P :byebye:

All other fish seem fine. However I feel that the other loach will miss his little buddy. :byebye:

My sister just brought over 2 rummy nose tetras and an air stone. The rummy noses are just exploring the tank atm. The loach is in its rock again. Also I have noticed that one of the neons red band is faded. If it continues to fade I may have to euthanize it in fear of NTD. I hope the rummy noses havent brought anything with them as I cannot quarantine them.

Hmmmm,

Not sure if it was a good idea to put new fish into a infected tank, also a medicated tank....
If its done now lets just hope it doesnt upset the balance of things, and hope they dont get Ich.....
I would keep an eye on the neon, it could be NTD but also could be a result of stress and the meds/ich.....

The aire stone will help oxygenate the tank, good idea especially when using meds that can effect these levels :)

Keep going with the water changes and the course of meds...
And keep us posted :)

Good luck

I couldnt not the rummy noses in the tank. She just brought them over without any foreword. She didnt know they were sick either.

The air stone is being a pain in the ass. I have to get smaller one, the way I put the tubbing causes it to turn over all the time, also it tends to scare the fish. Its a bar type stone so Im going to try and pick a small pebble type air stone, hopefully that'll work better.

The clown loach now spends basically all day in the rock (mourning over his friend?). He has more alot more spots on him now. After what happened to the first one I dont believe that this one will make it either.

I dont want to lose my clown loach. :-(

-EDIT-
I am certain that he is going to die tonight. He has come out of the rock and now is just constantly on his side on the gravel. He will be missed. :byebye:

I'm only a beginner but I think some fish are more suseptable to ich than others. I had an outbreak about 2 months after setting up my tank and lost a mollie which I replaced a month later, I also lost that mollie to ich. I have'nt had any more mollie's and have'nt had problems with ich.

I occasionally catch my barbs flicking of the rocks but a water change sorts them out.

Good luck to your loach.

Bobby
