Hey Everyone,

I have a planted tank so being cautious about treating ich which i noticed on my cardinals (one spot on a gourami). No other fish (about 20 fish) show signs of it. They are the new ones in tank and were in a quarantine tank however i think one week in there obviously wasn't good enough (guess i know for next time). I raised the temperature of tank slowly to 30 degrees, upped aeration and everyone is doing great. It's been 7 days and the cardinals still have white spots, no one has ever been rubbing on anything though. Doing 20 percent water changes daily.
Anyone know when white spots go away? Is the heat treatment not enough? I was going to do 10 days

Thanks :)

I would personally treat the white spot. The rise in temperature and water changes clearly arnt working. You need something to 'kill' the parasite :)

Are you 100% sure that it is Ich??

Definitely use treatment. Just follow the guidelines as stated on the bottle. I used Interpet, http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=interpet+white+spot#q=interpet+white+spot&hl=en&prmd=ivnsfd&source=univ&tbm=shop&tbo=u&sa=X&ei=G29OTvh-xcOEB9Cl1f0G&ved=0CDIQrQQ&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=d5fe405e35a7ddb9&biw=1569&bih=796

I would add aquarium salt (the kind for freshwater tanks). The salt along with the raise in temperature may be able to fix the problem without medication. I have tried this method on my own tank and it has worked for mild cases. The ich can not tolerate the aquarium salt and a temp of above 80F. Also make sure you dont overwhelm you tank by doing daily 20% water changes for an extended period of time. Hope this helps! Aquarium salt is good for all fish in general just make sure you get the freshwater kind as I staid earlier and read the directions for dosage. Good luck!!

I would prefer to use the salt method as you suggested, however I think its not great for all my live plants. So, I ve kept temp at 30 for 14 days now and cardinals still have spots, so picked up Ick guard 2 which says safe for scaleless fish. (have corys, loaches) Did one treatment yesterday. Hoping this will work and not harm my fish. Anyone use this stuff?
Thanks for advice everyone

it might be white spot chose an anti-white spot treatment i would set up a hospital tank as it can catch very quickly may there rubbing against things when your not looking at them or maybe you could take a photo of your ill fish and show it to your local pet store and see if they know whats wrong

good luck

You should always treat the whole tank in cases of ich, not just the affected fish in a hospital tank, as by the time the cysts develop, there will be ich parasites present in the water/substrate anyway.

I've just got rid of it fully it took 6 days, very easy to treat, i half dosed because of my scaleless fish so one dose then another in 48 hours then waterchange after another 48 hours, i also half dosed on aquarium salt at the beginning of the treatment due to my corys.

are you sure its fully gone? 6 days sounds a little short IMO, it took about 8 for it to go in my uncles tank

Thanks everyone for the help, I need it, lol. Think I'll try the one u suggested as ickguard 2 isnt doing anything, cardinals still have salt all over them and still no other fish in tank have it. Temp. at 30 still and everyone is eating and happy it seems so that's what is important.
