Suggestions please regarding the type of paint i could use to paint my tank. I chose black colour ( suggestions are accepted as well). Also, if you guys can teach me the right or certain way to paint the tank. my painting skills sucks...

You need to prime the glass with a glass etcher before you paint it, (paint supply shop should be able to help with that). Then you can use virtually any paint on it. Alternatively why not just use some black cardboard or paper or plastic from the hardware. I use coloured card from the newsagency and sticky tape them on. I can then change the backing to suit the fish I keep. Card is also cheaper than paint.

I hung black fabric across the back of my tank, cheap, fast, and its easy to check the backside of my tank since the fabric is just hanging from the back and not stuck solid to it.

Just slap on a couple of coats of ANYTHING you have handy... brush one coat one way, then another at 90 degrees once the first is dry - it will look horrible on the outside, but you never see this right !
I have painted dozens of tanks without issue, never even heard of "priming" !

One point... I always avoid the joins - on an all glass tank, where the bead of silicon exits the join - just mask it off with some tape.

primers are used on glass if you want the paint to stay put for any length of time. Otherwise it will start to peel off if it gets wet on a regular basis. It also helps the paint stick to the glass if the glass is slightly dirty.

I just use any acrylic undercoat, direct to the glass, & not had it peel yet....3 years +for some of the fish house tanks

As rooster said, 2-3 coats at angles to each other & it will look like it would never work, but once filled they always look great.

One thing to consider though.. once painted it is a right pain to clean off if you decide you don't like the colour etc...

medium green looks good if planted....well i like it unplanted too LOL

I would use black construction paper. it come soff easy in the event you feel like selling this tank and not all people like a painted background.

as long as you CLEAN the glass you will be fine... I use isopropyl alcohol, or a spectacles wipe.... or screen cleaner - its all the same !
Then slap it on !

I have a tank 20 years or so old... blackboard paint - just gets touched up when we move house ! never peeled :good:

Can the above advise be carried on to a peice of acrylic as i have made a divider but need it painting so two bettas cant see each other.

Cheers

You can get a laytex type of paint, in that if you dont like it you can just peel it off.

I would avoid paint IN the water... I would get the angle grinder or sander to frost the panel - zero additives ! :good:
