I Would Like 2 Add A Butterfly Fish 2 My Aquarium

thankyou very much i did find a striped talking catfish in one of my local pert stores but im not sure if its the fish for me i love it n all but it was $89.95 n im only starting out in catfish and i knoe for a fanatic thats not that much, but i would like to have more evxperience before i spend that much on a fish and it took alot of streangth to say that but im looking out for the best interest for the fish. for now i am just going to stay with pictus catfish and plecos.

Holy crap. $89.95? I hope this isn't the same striped talking catfish I'm used to...they usually run about $6-$8 around here...

Cuz I've had three of these. Like I said they cost about $6 to $8 here in the states. I'm not sure what the exchange is like with Australian currency but common sense tells me it's nowhere near this sort of difference.

Maybe because of strict import laws? Only thing I could think of that would explain it...aside from this being a much rarer fish than the normally seen "striped talking catfish" or just a royal ripoff.

Are you talking in the "australian dollar" or the american dollar?

1 Australian dollar = 0.7851 U.S. dollars
850 Aus = 667 US
300 Aus = 235 US

which is still VERY expensive.

Different currency possibly?

that is the same fish very beautiful i think it is because of the stict import because otherwise i cant see it being that bigger difference otherwise. my bf was just in the states should have gotten him to bring one back for me lol, dont think thatd work neway i can dream. i think im just gonna stick wit my plecos n pictus. even tho it is alot harder to get most of them here but you can still pick up some nice ones like the chocolate and the golden spot (wich i am planing on getting) for around $25.

Wow, just wow. I've seen some expensive fish but based on what they cost here I'd say they'd be worth about 10 AUS...it has to be the import laws.

I had three of them once and I never realised they are worth a small fortune in some other countries...

One thing though, you rarely see them outside of feeding time, unless you like to watch the tank after the lights go out (which I did).

One problem with talking catfish is that the second they're let out of the bag they tend to go straight for the nearest hiding place never to be seen again, some species are more sociable than others however.
