I Want To Properly Plant My 320L - Plants Have Arrived!

then a nutrient rich substrate probably isn't the way to go. Look at the Walstad method, using John Innes. Compost is packed with N and P, it also has some control of C02 release to some extent.

have a read of this, some of the statements are a bit dated in the Wiki link, but the main principles are there.

ps the Tannin statement is also wrong lol.

I would look at that.....but you seem to be suggesting changing the substrate. Wont be happening unless the current set-up self distructs.

I did look at the idea of compost....but that also leaches ammonia initially, correct?

it does, but that is used by the fast growing stem plants in a healthy setting, again there is no mention of daily water changes for the first few weeks in that wiki link. This is why i suggest you using the TPN+ caps as you'll get a similar result with these. Not as good, nut you will have at least some N and P for the plants to use as you up the plant mass.

ps, i'm not suggesting that you change the substrate, it just explains how the nutrient rich substrate work to some extent.

I didn't have the plant mass to deal with the ammonia initially (just wanted to get the tank up and running - which took me long enough), hence why I feared exposing the fish to it.

Wife and children away in a few weeks......will give me a lovely window to spend ours planting (and then obviously replanting)

well I didn't go with PlantsAlive in the end - I've just ordered 50 'easy grow' from Last Trading Post, so will hopefully be here early next week.

Will lay them all out and get pics up so that you wonderful people can identify them for me.

got confirmation that the plants were sent yesterday.

Imagine my dissapointment when they didn't arrive today :/

Hopefully they will turn up tomorrow and I'll have an excuse to spend hours on the tank.....

Well, here's what I got from Last Trading Post - I only know the twisted vallis! Anyone care to identify them?
