If read somewhere that Discus are in need of lower ph and can be peacefull is this true?. Also would a 33 g tank be enough for 2 with some dwarf cichlids? And finally are they really that hard to take care for and should only be kept by experience fish keepers? sorry for all the questions guys I hope this doesn't annoy anyone :p

i would say no to keeping 2 discus in a 33 gal, let alone one, discus can grow to 18cm's, sometimes more, and need 10 gallons each, and at least an 18 inch high tank.

You may be able to give them 10 gallons each, but they are delicate fish, and should be provided with a lot more room to mark territories, and give them more space to swim...

Discus usually don't do well with two in a tank unless they want to breed. One discus mixed with dwarf cichlids ( i hope you are talking apistogramma or somtheing else thats not very agressive) would do great in that tank. I have kept discus for 18 years in many different tanks. Some people say discus will only do well in schools. This is not true. Although you will have trouble with two ( most likely). If you are going to put in other fish make sure the discus is not too small or he may not compete for food ( speaking of, frozen is usually best). Remember discus need a temp of 82 to 86 deg. They like clean water, and need need (verry important) need need to be feed two to three times a day. Most people loose discus to them not getting enough food. Always quarinteen new that you add to a discus tank or you may bring in the plague( a devistating disease to discus) the other main loss of discus. They like a low ph, but mine are around 8.0 ( they have even bred at this). Just make sure if your ph is different than where you get them, aclimate them slowly to your tank. I hope this doesn't scare you. discus are really not that hard if you pay attention to them.
