Okay, so here is how it goes.

for my birthday I want to get one of those fancey terreriums. I have always like them. I want two, one for plant plants and one for catus' as I have a few little ones that need re homing. I want the terreriums that look like

So they are not that big. I want to get some lizards. I think that they are cool, just never wanted them before. I want some nice little ones. One that likes dessert conditions, sand and cactus, and one that likes like a foresty theme. I dont want ones that are that expensive though as I am going to get some shellies in a while. If I only get one it will be a cactus one though.

also what would I need to beabel to keep lizards? And how can I sex them, i would love to breed some if at all possible.

Thanks

petsmart usualy has anoles for around $7 but I used to just catch them in the back yard. They can be very tame. I'd go for the forresty theme with them though. They are pretty easy to keep but you have to catch bugs for them or get meal worms or wax worms from the bait shop. We'd only keep them a few months out of the year and then let them go and catch more the next year.

So wait, you what two terriaums> A rainforest theme and a desert theme? Anoles are the best bet for the jungle theme. Desert, I go out in my backyard and catch whatever if i want that theme. But if want something non native...bearded dragons are cool.

you'll need to do some serious research on what types of lizards you like, how big they get, their light and heat needs, water needs, feeding needs, and most of all, their space needs. most lizard owners will tell you that sand isn't always the safest substrate for a lizard. with a sandy desert like setup, you'd go with some sort of desert dwelling gecko. but sand can be eaten up along with crickets, and cause impaction, something you're little guy could die from. you need to do your research, figure out what it will cost to feed and keep what you chose, and go from there.

a good way to start, go to your local petshops, write down all the lizards they carry (both their common and the scientific name). then hop online and do your research. many lizards, even cheap little anoles, DO have special care needs that you have to know about if you want happy healthy little lizards. be sure you know how big the lizard will get and if it will fit, at adult size, in the terrarium tank you choose. also, be sure that the type of tank you'll be using is suitable for that type of lizard (ex: cham's don't do well in all glass enclosures, best in the screened type as they can get sick in an all glass one).

most lizards you'll need at least live crickets for. for the crickets, you'll need a container to keep them in, unless you plan to go out and buy some every other day, food and "water" for the crickets so you can gut-load them, and the willingness to feed live foods (this part makes some people squemish). that part alone can be a cost factor, so make sure you figure out if you can afford it.

well, i dont care about lizards eating bugs, I though, am kinda afraid of the bugs flying at me, so I dont like touching them.

My mom isnt to fond of getting a lizard, so I dont want her to know about it. I minght not even get one of those terreriums, but if I do I will have a friend pic one up. And I have decided to get some leaf plants instead as I like them alot better.

for the jungle (high humidity) habitat, you could do a community of long tailed lizards. they do excellent in groups.

i cant think of anyhting small that would fit in the desert habitat. the smallest things i can think of are leopard/african fat tail geckos which can still get to be 10 inches or so. they would also need a longer tank as opposed to a taller one like in the pic you posted.

cacti arent good things to have in terrariums anyways. they are extremely dangerous especially in such small quarters.
they cause injuries way too easily. you could have some succulents though. whatever you decide, be sure to check the compatibility with plants. some can be poisonous.

i decided gainst lizards, and got some hermit crabs instead.

thanks for al the info though
