You might not want to breed them again if they are already F3 because there is a good chance you'll get a lot of culls.

maybe aura's right.... would it help if you get a like not so eggbound female so that there wont be too much eggs and fry and maybe you wont need too much space for them and if you get culls, you wont get too much just my 2cents

NO what i mean is that aura may be right about getting a lot of culls in the like fourth spawn and maybe if you breed him with a not to eggboudn female you'll get less eggs and fry and if you get culls, you wont get too much... jmo

Right now I know that the two MG's he got are second generation, I believe, but I'm not sure. I would ask wuv. But in all honesty, I would try the MG orangie pair..

yes, and that doesn't have anything to do with slamster breeding his pair. Also, I believe that is a bad way to experiment things. Why would you breed a pair, see what happens, and then try it again if the little amount of fry spawned are actually healthy? First off, it is not really recommended to breed the same pair more then once, especially following their current spawn. Spawning puts much stress on the fish, and you'd probably ahve to wait a while to spawn them again, IF they are completely healthy after their first spawn.

GP, why are you breeding them? For the fun of it, or to sell em? If you want to sell em, best to keep the CT strain, it'll make more money

if only one of hte parents is a ct (and the other doesnt carry it), then you wont get any cts. (you might get a few combs though)
if you mix mg with orange-im betting you will perobably get a mess. probably a lot of blueish bettas with redwash. most likely no orange. im not too familiar with mg genetics, but im pretty sure you dont want to cross mg with anything other than mg. you usually cant get any orange unless you breed 2 oranges together.
as for mixing a plakat with a long tail- youre probably going to get a mix of plakats and long tails and a lot of medium-length tails (which im not too keen on)
and remember whatever you breed-the females genetics have more to do with the color of the offspring and the male has more to do with finnage.

jac if i remember correctly wuv said the plakats have ct hm and possibly dt geno. i can see that the female plakat has a ct dorsal. pretty good points you got there jac. i need to find a really good website about genetics like one that has all the different tail types and patterns and that tells you about crossing them

Phantom i believe you meant me and not GP right? well i plan on breeding them for the expierience. i know for a fact that if i sell them to petstores i'll only get like 2 bucks so im not sure yet. i'll think about that more when i actually breed them and when i can see whether i have 300 babies or 50 babies.

hm especially because even when you breed 2 hms (pheno) together, you will be lucky if you come out with even 15% hm.
jim sonniers site is a good one if you havent been there. i dont have the link right now-maybe someone else can give it to you.

theres also no way a pet store will give you $2 per fish.
you need to check with them first before breeding to make sure they will even take the fish. a lot of stores wont buy from you unless you havea hatchery license. you dont want to be stuck with 5473874638291 fry!

I learned a couple of days ago from my betta mentor,who is a true betta guru and a Grand Champion breeder (and whose mentor happens to be Jim Sonnier) that all HM's carry DT geno,this is how they get the expanded dorsal fin and the extra wide tail.

I've also learned that the delta is now extinct...or not even considered a finnage. It's now just considered a faulty HM but I'll read more on that later.

lol jac, i have a shelf in my closet now. it was probably a good idea to not buy any fish today cause it was a good 90 degrees outside and the store itself was really warm the female that looked like a mg was sickly i think it is because i just got 5 fish in the mail yesterday too? i don't have a coffee table anymore i have a betta table
