I have a snail that I think he is a Pulmonate Snail or a Golden Apple Snail and for the past week he has sat in the same spot under the plants. Before that he spent a week floating on the surface.

During this time our pump/filter stopped working and we didn't realize it for a while and then it took a day to go to town to get a new pump and by then our water was turning yellow and our pH was dropping. As soon as we got a new pump I changed 30% H2O, and took out all the decorations and rinsed them. Now the water is crystal clear and the other fish are happy but I think my snail suffered from the ordeal. I have one other snail and he seems to be doing fine.

His insides are shriveling up and I am afraid he is dead. What is a sure sign of snail death? Do snails go into hybernation? Help! I don't want to loose my snales!!

Smell it. You'll know if it's dead. That's what I did.

Unfortunatly smelling it is really the best metod  hope you don't have a week stomach, they smell awful when dead!

Well, yep they both died. The one who was dead the longest had lost his flap and the other one was shriveling up like the first one. I'm not sure yet if I am going to replace them or get some other 'tank scrubber' type critter.
