I Think My Female Guppy Is Sick

She had no appetite last night, she spit food out and only ate I think 1 bite. If she doesn't eat tonight I will have to go ahead and do.... it.

Sure sounds like gill flukes (something I suspect a female swordtail of mine dying from, after being stressed by another female).
She went thin, refused to eat, has been separated and had frequent water changes, but no improvement. She refused to eat bloodworms. She died eventually. I cannot kill fish directly, too many memories from the past related to that.

they are growing very well and eating like lil pigs. Everytime I go near their 'tank' they fly to the top expecting food. I'm currently feeding 3 times a day. I may up that to 4 times over the next few days and see if they eat 4 meals a day - keeping an eye on the water at all times though.

They seem very healthy but then Mum is at least a year+ in age. The thing that's bothering me is they all seem to be developing black tails ... I lost my black tailed male at least 4 months ago now. I'll be surprised if they all turn out to have black tails.
She's definitely pregnant again though. Maybe these will be blue .... what am I saying .... I DON'T WANT ANYMORE!!!! :hyper:

Mine are so scared in their box, they mostly hide in the plants and snatch a flake before running back for cover.
I saved the laziest fry possible -.- When I picked them, 2 out of the 4 were lying on the sand (those 2 being the calicos). Now I'm scared not to lose any more.

Also, stuff seems to have gone haywire when it comes to community: their parents started fighting out of who knows what reason again (usually happens after they eat) and now the freaking fry are fighting too! X_X I believe the calico turned out to be a male, as it's dancing in front of the other fry before attacking them. -_- FAIL...

I don't know anything about swordtails so I can't help unfortunately. I know they are related to platies and I do keep them. I find platy fry tends to stay near the bottom of the tank, generally hiding in the substrate and under ornaments.

Guppy fry do the opposite, they go for the surface everytime which is why they normally just get eaten in my tank.

I'm on my 3rd or 4th batch of platy fry since changing to the black substrate and a lot have survived and gone to my lfs ... this is my first proper batch of guppy fry. Up until now I've seen the odd one or two for a few days and then they disappear.

I'm wondering if swordtail fry behave like platy fry and that may be why they are hiding out. Have you got plenty of plant cover? I've got some moss in with the guppy fry but they arn't that bothered about it

They are in a breeder net, the reason they are hiding is because their mother keeps pecking the edges of it.
The supposedly healthy fry are at the top, sitting in the tiny plants that I put in there for them, while the one that fell ill last night was hiding between the net and edge of the plastic cage, near the bottom. Even weirder was that all 4 of them were eating yesterday, so until 12 am, that fry acted normal. Why he ended up bloated in the morning, I don't know. I always remove the food after 3 minutes or so.

They all used to sit at the bottom on their first day, but then they just waited at the top for food and now snatch flakes when I give them. I'm feeding them 2-3 flakes a day, crumbled finely. But I wonder if I should cut it down some more, they're only three fry.

The plants are floating bits of water sprite, which does manage to hide them quite well, sometimes I struggle to see them (especially the albino, he's so hard to see if he's not against black background).

I'm feeding mine tetramin baby. All my fry have had that and they've all been healthy. I'll continue to use it as it doesn't foul the water, the fry love it and it seems to be really good for them

Sorry, had problems posting that and it's posted the same comment 3 times. Sorry about that and now I can't work out how to delete the extra posts ....

So far it's just tetramin flakes that I have. Not specifically for fry, but it should do.

it should so long as your crushing it small enough for them to eat it. The baby version is a fine powder

Yeah, i'm crushing it against a lid, it turns into a powder. But not sure how much to give in one serving. I just crush a small piece of flake and put it in.
So they get 2 or 3 flakes a day as servings, but I think it's a bit too much still, for the small amount of fry.

yeah, it sounds a bit much for just 3 babies. Their stomachs are supposed to be as big as their eye so that's kinda minute. I think we can all tell when we're under or over feeding though so it's up to you

I just watch my fishes' behavior (the adults') and I know when they are full. But with these fry, it's so hard to tell if they're hungry or not, as they just sit there and do nothing but stare from between the plant leaves until I put the flakes in, and even then they take a bite and run back for cover.

that sounds normal behaviour though. Clever fry stay under cover and just dart out for food before darting back. Just keep doing as you are and if you think you are over feeding cut it back a bit
