I think I'm loosing my favourite platy Lucky, I realised she was pregnant just over a week ago which surprised me as she was so small, I think she gave birth on Sunday as she suddenly got a lot thinner and I saw I little one swimming around, so cute :D , but since then she has either just hung at the top of the tank with the fins clamped or sitting on the bottom, she’s not eating much and last night didn’t even come out for frozen red worm :-( .

Does anybody know anything I can for her? I just dont know what to do :dunno:
I don’t have another tank that I can put her in.

I've got a similar problem (is there a curse on Southampton?).

My Smudge also gave birth on Sunday and is not making a good recovery. She was obviously stressed out by the other fish in the tank, and her behaviour seemed to signal to them "dying fish" so they started picking on her, which made her more stressed.....

Ended up putting her in a large breeding net, not an ideal solution, but like yourself I didn't have a spare tank.

Put her in this morning, don't know how long I'll dare to keep her in there, but she does actually seem happier now that she can feel grotty in peace (I know the feeling, I fought like mad not to be discharged from labour ward into the bosom of the family  ).

Have handfed her bloodworm from a sachet this morning and she did eat, so that's a good sign.

Starting to wonder myself if there is a curse in Southampton :D one of my boyfriends Plays has been looking off colour for a couple of days now, but ive come to the conclusion that she doesn't like being pregnant in the early stages, think she gets morning sickness

Might see if i can pop out in my lunch hour or after work and get a breeding net see if that helps her.

Haven't seen the babies since sunday either starting to wonder if they became fish food :-( i wasn't exactly prepared for all this :D

Shame you don't have a spare tank as a while back this happened to me and I felt for sure that the Platty was on her last fins. She was clamped, hanging at the top, not feeding and very faded. I ended up putting her in a small tank by herself and adding a couple of teaspoons of salt as a "what have I got to lose exercise". Within 4 hours she was looking as if nothing had ever happened and after a week of this went back to her friends in the big tank and It never happened again :)

I know, the worst thing is i decided at the weekend that i need to get a small tank that i can use as a hospital tank or fry tank, but i can get it till im paid at the end of this week and even then it wouldn't be cycled so its no use :-(

So sorry to hear that. :(

It sounds like she may have had some kind of parasite, but I couldn't tell for sure.

:rip: Lucky.

Did you save any of her fry?

I honestly dont know if any survived :( she gave birth in the tank with the other Platys and i didn't have any thing that i could put the one i saw in. Haven't seen the little one again but im still keeping my fingers crossed that some will have managed to get in a hiding place somewhere, guess i will have to wait and see.

Went out tonight a got a small tank that i can use as a fry or hospital tank, so going to set that up, cloning the filter at the moment from the other tank, so if it happens again at least i can try and do something. Also got a breeding trap that can also be used as an isolation chamber.

Feel like i let her down by not being prepared, and she deserved more :(

Thanks for the support :)

Sorry R.I.P.

I have found out that making a little cave that only fry can get in and out of is a perfect hiding spot. if you make it right next to the glass. you can see them. use a flat rock. IT WORKS FOR SAVING THEM TOO. RIP :rip:
