Ammonia levels are still at 0 we have two airstones and an airfilter that cam with the tank. The water is well aerated and like i said ammonia levels are right were they need to be. It seems to me thhat if 3 zebra's died and no gold danio's did, then the tank the zebra's came from probably had a disease. Just a thought. All the fish are still happy except the dead ones. Also the other dwarf frog has made an appearance. One more thing, THe ghost shrimp are still kicking

that's actually really great news about the shrimp/frogs. shrimp and amphibians are actually more sensitve that fish to wate pollutants (if that can be imagined). if your shrimp are dying off (but not from being eaten ), then you can be fairly certain something is wrong.

that's really sad about your zebras. here's hoping nothing else goes wrong :cross-fingers:

also, what happened to your other fish and what does your current stock look like?

sylvia I added new ornaments and gravel to the tank when i set it up. a day or so later i added some plastic plants that my sister gave me. it is unlikely these had any effect since they spent the past year in ann attic. We also rinsed them well before we put them in which would have killed any bacteria still living right.

All the other fish are thriving. The blue gourami that was sitting at the top was just hungry. We fed them and now he is sitting happily inside of a sunken ship. I am sad about the danios dieing but i did desperatly need some more space in my tank so it is a blessing and a sad curse.

Edit: I believe my fish stock is listed in the first post. Add 2 frogs and 3 shrimp to that. The subtract three zebra danios. That is were we are right now

One more edit: Two of my rainbow sharks still bicker from time to time. Wallmart's tank says that you need atleast five in the tank. The place I bought it frrom sold them in sets of three. Who's right and who's wrong.

OK - i am just putting my two pennyworth in here - but...why are you so intent on setting up a tank where all the inhabitants will eat each other?? Don't get me wrong I have no problem with people using feeder fish etc - but you said that even the frogs were added to be eaten - isn't that taking things a bit far? We are all learning here (well most of us !) and I think you need to go back to basics. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Well the only creatures in the tank that i plan on replacing once they get eaten is the ghost shrimp. The others I only put in there to fill in the empty space until the bigger fish grow up enough to eat them. So yeah it is a little cruel but it's only a one time cruelty.

BTW if i had it to do over again i would not have gotten the puffers or the danios. Maybe not even the frogs

edit: A word to the newbie: DO NOT LISTEN TO THE GUY AT THE PET STORE. It ended up that by the time my sharks get big enough to eat the danios then the danios will be to big to be eaten. Therefore I am going to have to set up a whole new tank in a year. DO RESEARCH BEFORE YOU BUY ANYTHING

Another edit: That may be a little extreme listen to him but don't believe a thing he says until you have researched it and seen it in three different places

I think you are kind of missing the point... Yes, 'newbies', don't listen to the guy at the pet store... but NOT because he thought the sharks would be able to eat the adult danios! The reason you shouldn't listen is because the guy at the pet store sold 3 sharks to go together in one tank and then said puffers would make fine community fish and so on. You should ALWAYS do your own research first - the LFSs simply cannot be relied upon. It's a shame but that's reality. (Oh and I don't blame you for believing the LFS - you would expect them to be knowledgeable about what they are selling...)


However, I'm not going to realy comment on the one-off cruelty thing. You could consider murder a one-off cruelty but in most places people get a life sentence because of their 'one-off cruelty'. In other places they get sentenced to death.
