Just got back from my LFS and I am very pleased with myself,, I think I have just got a real bargain :D
A 2ft cube tank with built in weir
An 18 inch cube sump
A UV
A deltec mc 500 skimmer
An ocean runner 2500
A t5 4 tube over tank light 4x 24w
And the cabinet
The cabinet is a bit tatty so i will be scraping that and making my own custom cabinet, but for the price {£150} I could not be happier.
what do you think

Good deal. Need better lights for SPS in that deapth of water, but LPS and Softies will be fine under that. The tanks, Skimmer and sump pump are a steal at £150 though, even if you do need to up-grade lighting for your application :good:

All the best
Rabbut

yeah thats a very god price. Eventually i would be tempted to wack a 250W halide and an auto top up on it. SPS in cube tanks look awesome

i would have thought the deltec alone would take near three digits. reaaaally good find there :good:

Yes ben, i will be asking near the time when i set the tank up, for advice on the lights. But to be honest i don’t really want a MH because the light will spill out into the room to much so i will need something which i can build into the lid. {i like the living room dark when i am watching horror movies lol}

I was watching a mc 500 on eBay just out of interest to see how much it sold for and that made £ 104 on its own :hyper: so like i say i am well pleased :good:
Unfortunately though it will all be getting stored in the garage, till after my wedding as that’s where all my money is going at the minute. So yer once the wedding is out the way i will be starting a new thread :good:
Thanks again for all your comments there much appreciated as always.

I have bean to colect the tank and i now have it in my garage. :good:

I have had the tank running for a few days just to make sure everything was working, and to make sure that there are no leaks, and every think went well, :good: so i have now moved on to the next step, Planning my new cubed layout  .
I am planning on getting a joiner to make me a frame out of 2x2 wood. Then i will build the cabinet.

As you can see in my drawing the sump {18inch cube} will mainly be in the left hand cupboard. The lid will lift off so i can access the sump from above for easer maintenance the other 3 or 4 inch of the sump will be in the right hand cupboard which will leave me room to add more equipment {calcium reactor ect}later on it need be.
I have a couple of Q
1) the back and right hand side of the tank will be painted Q) what type of paint do i use
2) which colour do you think is best black or blue
3) i was thinking off using a 1 inch SCWD on the return from the sump pump {ocean runner 2500} would it be ok if it was mounted at the pump end so i can have easier access if it ever gets blocked with cheato ect.
Any comments or advice much appreciated as always THANK YOU :good:

Not often you get a bargain these days John, but you sure seem to have found an exceptional one there.
Keep us updated with the pictorials.

I will do Colin.
But it is not going to move a long at any great pace because as i said earlier most of my money is going into the wedding funds at the minute. So all i will be doing for now is the little things like making the cabinet, painting the sides off the tank, all though i do like your rock wall and i have time on my hands  . Or and one of the support braces at the top of the tank got cracked :grr: {don’t ask} so i will have to replace that {will need some advice on this, type of glass to use ect :good: } Once the wedding is out the way it should gather pace i only really bought the tank ect now because it was such a bargain.
Thanks again

{that rock walls got me thinking now}
Off to read your thread Colin to refresh my memory on how you made it, hope you don’t mind if i do steal your idea it does look good. :good:

Hi John,
It was made with eggcrate and BiOrb ceramic media and lots of silicone of course.
For my upgrade though I'll be using Simon Garretts method of making your own rock structures

Looks good man. My only concern if you're going with everything closed-topped like that would be lots of fans for circulation.

Umm, ok i see where you’re coming from with the closed tops. i was going to have cover glass on the tank and sump as well to help stop evaporation and salt creep. But now that you have pointed that out {thank you} i guess the closed top wouldn’t be the best option for heat and gas exchange ect ether. So how does this sound cover glass on the sump to help stop evaporation and salt creep inside the cabinet, but leave the main tank open top. Perhaps put some egg create over to stop kids knocking anything into tank. If this is ok I am just left with the problem of the light emitting out into the room. but then again I suppose that’s a small price to pay if the tanks inhabitants are going to be healthier and somewhere down the line i am going to have to upgrade the lights any way so perhaps the aqua beam 500 could be a option don’t know now many I would need for a 2ft deep and I haven’t seen any reviews on them yet so don’t know how good they are but yer that could be a option I guess.
Thanks john,o
