I love it!!! My tank looks so much better. I cant wait for the rest of the cloudiness to go away, although its not that bad. I will take pictures hopefully tomorrow if its cleared up.

ETA: My Kuhlis seem to like it so much better too!!!!

Agreed, sand is much nicer for viewing and for the fish.

I adore the sand look and would love to see photos of your tank with it :) I worry that the fish would eat it. Is it safe for Cory's since they spend most fo the time digging out ground level? What fish are not suitable do you know? And is there a link on the site that shows the safest way to change from gravel to sand?

I used white pool filter sand. I got it from the pool supply store. I think as for what fish can and cant be in sand I am not sure, but what ever kind of fish you have I am sure that someone on here know which substrate is preferred. When I did the change I took out all my fish execpt the Kuhlis because I couldnt catch them, Then scooped out all the gravel using my fish net. I then rinsed out my sand using a stocking. I Poured some sand into the stocking rinsed it untill there didnt seem to be anymore dust and dirt comming out then poured it into my tank, and i repeated the rinseing step untill it was done.

I will post pictures shortly. I have to go put my son down for his nap.

I vacuum so much dirt from my gravel, in my marine tank I don't need to do this. So how do you get around this?

i must admit sand in tanks do look better the only down point is you can see every bit of dirt lol i think wot would make it better on your tank is a dark background it will bring the colour of the sand to stand out more :D

For Tetratank, a good guide for changing from Gravel to sand: http://www.fishforums.net/content/forum/71...-Fish-Aquarium/

Also, cory's will adore the sand, they love to shuffle around in it, they suck some up and sift it through their gills, its great to watch. Cant think of any fish that wouldnt prefer it to Gravel. :)

Id seriously recommend 2 things.

1) Get yourself a plain black background, there cheap and will make a huge difference.

2) Get yourself either some taller fake plants or some long real ones, give yourself a bit of variation.

Yeah a background will be nice to hide the cords and everything you have behind the tank and longer plants would be nice, making it look more natural.

Thank you for your suggestions. I am thinking about switching to easy maintance real plants. As I dont want to have to buys new lighting and co2's and things. I am getting ready to start some research on those. I would like to get rid of the fake plants all together.
